- HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL / Health and HygieneNon-critical
There is an established program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. [CCLR Sec. 46(1)]
Observation. An Educator was observed supporting a child through a diapering - toileting routine. After doing so, the Educator removed and discarded their disposable glove. The Educator then went to leave the bathroom to invite another child. It was then that the Licensing Officer interrupted the Educator and asked about washing hands after glove removal. The Educator informed that this is not their usual practice however, proceeded to wash their hands at one of the children's sinks. A further conversation occurred regarding washing-disinfecting the sink after the Educator had used it. Licensing Officer was informed that this does not occur. Considering that Educators are supporting children through diapering - toileting routines, hand washing must occur even after removing disposable gloves. It is also important to prevent the spread of illness and cross-contamination and therefore, cleaning and disinfecting a sink an Educator uses, is to occur. Please note: GCC (30 Months to SA) programs' bathrooms do not also include hand sinks solely for Educators to use.
