  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. A discussion occurred specific to creating a barrier to prevent children's access to the exercise equipment. Prior to implementing a barrier, Licensing Officers will review the measurements taken to determine usable floor space. Subsequent to this inspection Licensing has conducted a file review, which resulted in locating measurements taken on August 6, 2019. Living room- 12 feet by 20 feet= 240 square feet (wall to wall excluding the cabinet under TV). (3.6 m x 6.0 m) Dining area- 11 feet by 12 feet= 132 square feet (wall to wall including dining table). (3.3 m x 3.6 m) Considering the amount of useable floor space available, a barrier to prevent children's access to the exercise equipment is possible. Licensing observed a rowing machine and an elliptical machine located in the corner of the living room space. Two chairs were observed to be used to block the area. Licensing observed a child push pas the chairs and enter the area. Licensing observed that the rowing machine had a strap around the top that was attached to the wall. Licensing assessed the strap and noticed the strap easily slid off. The machine was still able to lean and tip forward. The rowing machine is not adequately secured by the strap. A cable cord was observed hanging loose located along a baseboard. This poses a risk of entanglement.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Hazardous Objects and SubstancesNon-critical

Hazardous objects and substances are inaccessible to children. [CCLR Sec 17]

Observation. Licensing observed a string of Christmas lights that was accessible to children outside. This poses a risk of entanglement.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Care PlansNon-critical

For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

Observation. Licensing observed a registration form stating a child has asthma and requires an emergency inhaler. No care plan was observed for the child. The Licensee stated that the child receives treatment in the morning at home and does not bring the inhaler to the child care facility. Licensing inquired about what would happen if the child required the inhaler during care. The Licensee stated that they would need to follow up with the family regarding this issue.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records Must Be AvailableNon-critical

All records referred to in CCLR sections 56 to 58 are kept in a single place at the facility. [CCLR Sec. 59(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed missing records for fire drills implemented in the year 2021. The Licensee informed Licensing that fire drills were implemented for the year 2021 and would need to relocate the document.
