  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed areas of the facility requiring cleaning, including visible marks on walls, surface discolouration on the diaper mat edges, and old paper towel rolls stored on top of new paper towels. A newly installed privacy curtain in the washroom showed visible marks, and staff noted that no cleaning routine for this is currently in place. In areas where food preparation may occur, classroom materials were stored on the counter, creating a potential risk of cross-contamination. Staff noted that a deep clean is completed weekly through a cleaning service and routine cleaning is completed daily by child care staff. A discussion occurred regarding cleaning frequency and processes for specific items and areas, and Licensing will provide cleaning resources.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

A record for each child containing the daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(c)]

Observation. Licensing reviewed the daily attendance records, which are maintained on two separate attendance sheets for the younger and older groups of the OCC program. On both sets of records, there were inconsistencies in sign-in times, sign-out times, or whether a child was recorded as present. A discussion with staff occurred regarding the importance of accurately keeping attendance records in accordance with CCLR Sec. 57(2)(c), which supports record requirements and provides a log of each child’s hours of attendance, as maximum hours of care are specific to this care type, as outlined in CCLR Sec. 40(3).

Licensing observed that fire drills were not conducted in February and March 2025. Although drills were conducted in April, the program is reminded to ensure fire drills are conducted monthly and emergency drills annually.
