The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. The climbing mats in the classroom are beginning to wear and one will need to be removed as the tears/gaps in material will hold germs.

First aid kits are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided away from premises. [CCLR Sec. 23(2)]

Observation. Please ensure that emergency contact information for all of the children with a photo for each child is added to the first aid bag.

There is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(b)]

Observation. The emergency supplies are collected but they are not stored in way that is easily accessible in case of an emergency. Please ensure that all of these supplies are stored together in one large container/tub with all of the children's emergency contact information and photo of each child. This can be stored inside or outside.

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

Observation. The sand box was uncovered when not in use.

Observation. The program has a small collection of items to be used in the event of an emergency, however this supply is inadequate. The current supplies are kept in a drawer in the kitchen.

The licensee has written, parental consent to release a child to someone other than the parent. [CCLR Sec. 57(3)(b)]

Observation. The children's files do not contain written consent to release a child to someone other than the parent. This is different than an emergency contact.

Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. No outdoor checks are being recorded.

Play materials and/or equipment are not safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)(b)]

Observation. LOs observed the following in the outdoor play space: • shade structure not secured on grass • exposed nails on sandbox edging These issues pose a hazard to the children in care.

The licensee has written, parental consent to release a child to someone other than the parent. [CCLR Sec. 57(3)(b)]

Observation. LOs observed that several children's files did not contain emergency contacts.

Criminal record checks have not been obtained. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)(a)]

Observation. LOs observed that the manager has an RCMP criminal record check on file. The 2nd staff on site has a criminal record check issued to a different organization. Manager stated that criminal record checks are in progress.
