A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Licensing observed a wooden ladder stored near the children's washroom/cubby area. The ladder was unsecured and poses a risk of injury. Licensing observed a large amount of programming materials being stored on top of furniture throughout the facility. A discussion was had around the way these items are being stored and the possibility of injury during an emergency situation (i.e. earthquake). Licensing was informed that the program has limited storage indoors and different methods/ideas of additional storage were discussed. Licensing observed a discarded Christmas tree in the outdoor play area. This poses a risk of injury. Licensing observed the climbing structure in the outdoor play area to be dirty and had areas of green algae growth. This poses as a hazard and requires cleaning.

Observation. Licensing observed one staff with an expired CRC and another staff with a CRC done through the RCMP. Licensing requires CRC's be completed through the Criminal Records Review Program (a resource will be provided).

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]
Observation. Licensing observed no validation/ verification on-file for employee's ECE certification.
