    Observation. A hole has appeared in the corner of the sandbox, causing sand to continually spill out. Surrounding wood parts are also showing signs of wear and tear over time, needing repair. Manger informs that a work order has been submitted for these items.

    Observation. Licensing observed the edge of an art sink in the activity area to have peeled off. The front section is observed to be taped on to secure. This item is no longer in good repair, or easy to clean. A fabric chair is located in the outdoor area, showing wear and tear. This item is not easy to clean outdoors, and not in good repair. Manager informs that this chair is on its way to be thrown out.

    Supervision of Play Spaces: Staff practice active supervision, including a combination of close proximity and attention, watching, and listening. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space].

    Observation. *During today's visit, 4 children were observed to be climbing the chain link fence in an attempt to experience some riskier play. CCFL did not observe staff practicing active supervision and a discussion was held with an educator in this area that children should be allowed to experience risky play but that the role of the educator in these scenarios is to practice close proximity, attention, watching and listening.

    There is an established program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. [CCLR Sec. 46(1)]

    Observation. *There was no hand soap available at the adult sink next to the diapering area.

    Observation. *The furniture and equipment appear to be in good condition. *A large brown shelf being used as cubbies is not secured to the wall creating a possible tipping hazard.

    Observation. *The smaller white refrigerator did not appear to have a thermometer and was observed to be unclean inside. Even though the children provide their own foods, an infant cup of milk was observed to be in the fridge indicating it is used for the children's needs, therefore this refrigerator must be monitored for temperature (4 degrees or less) and also for cleanliness. *2 looped blind cords in the art area were observed to be unsecured.

    Equipment, furniture and supplies are located so as not to block or hamper exits in the case of fire or other emergency. [CCLR Sec. 15(1)(b)]

    Observation. *CCFL observed the door from the art area leading to the outside was kept locked. An Educator said that the door was kept locked to prevent the children from freely going in and out of the facility, however this is the only exit from this side of the building and is indicated on the evacuation plan as an exit. Exits must not be hampered by locks or otherwise.

    Observation. *A plastic tarp structure was observed to have been constructed at the end of the covered area on the side. CCFL observed large unsecured 2 x 4's that had been rolled up into the tarp to provide weight and stability down the sides however the 2 x 4's do not appear to be securely attached.

    Observation. *Licensing observed a wooden climber/slide in the small nap room that does not have resilient padding in the fall zone. *The blue tumbling mats in the main play area are worn and slightly torn on the corners. This item is no longer easy to clean. *There is a large rectangular mirror and some honeycomb mirror tiles in the main play room that are not made of tempered glass and do not have a shatter proof covering.

    The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

    Observation. *A discussion was held with the Manager regarding a gap in the fence at the top of the bench that separates the infant from the toddler outdoor play yard. The Manager informed Licensing that the current practice is to place a garbage can and bin across the gap to prevent children from crossing over. *The latch on the gate the separates the 2 play yards is broken.

    Observation. *The Manager's ECE certificate expired as of 2021/04/18. The Manager informed Licensing that the re-application has been submitted to the ECE Registry.
