    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. Items noted from a previous routine inspection are still outstanding. Staff inform that work orders have been sent for the following items: - Climbing structure outdoors is showing wear and tear. The bottom of a climbing area with foot holds show rotting wood. This item is no longer in good repair. - Wooden shingle on the siding of the facility near the climber is broken and loose, with a sharp metal edge underneath. This item is no longer in good repair. - Multiple areas in the play yard show signs of rotting wood, including stumps around the garden bed, sandbox, bottom of the wooden climber, and wooden covered structure. - Wooden bridge has a panel that has come loose, and can be a potential tripping hazard. Additional items noted during this inspection: - Lightbulb has burned out in the main activity area. Staff inform that they wait for more lightbulbs to go out before having it fixed, due to the high ceiling and needing to bring in a very tall ladder. Program spends majority of the day outside, so the lightbulb has not been a huge concern so far. - Wood is wearing out at the bottom of back doors leading the outdoor play space, due to age. - Cracks were noted in the ceiling beams. Staff inform, that information was provided that there are no risks of structural issues from the cracks. Monitor for changes, and repair when necessary.

    Observation. Licensing observed the bottom of the wooden climbing structure located at the back of they yard, lacking sufficient wood chips. LO noted the fall concern from the platform where there are footholds to climb up from. Staff inform that they had a recent top up of woodchips, but that this area was missed, as they only filled the front area. Facility will follow up with this item.

    Observation. A log of the outdoor inspections were complete until June of 2025. Staff inform that they have missed logging it for July and August. Staff commit to resuming the logs daily.

    A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

    Observation. Licensing observed the second floor loft area as a nap space for children. One cot is placed adjacent to the staircase with no gate. Staff informs that an adult is always in the area with them during nap time to supervise. Licensing strongly recommends repositioning the cot away from the stairs. A conversation was had in regards to placement of staff while supervising, proximity, and whether one staff would be sufficient if a child is placed so close to the staircase.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Caulking around the toilets in the children's washroom are no longer in good repair. - Divider at the bottom of the stairs is cracked on the side. Currently there is duct tape acting as a temporary repair. Conversation was had in regards to regularly changing the tape so that it does not peel and become difficult to clean. - Climbing structure outdoors is showing wear and tear. The bottom of a climbing area with foot holds show rotting wood. This item is no longer in good repair. - Wooden shingle on the siding of the facility near the climber is broken and loose. This item is no longer in good repair. - Several areas in the play yard show signs of rotting wood, including stumps around the garden bed, sandbox, and wooden covered structure. - Wooden bridge has a panel that has come loose, and can be a potential tripping hazard. - Wooden covered structure at the mud kitchen area showing exposed nails on the roof.

    Furniture or equipment for sleeping is used by only one child at a time, is clean and comfortable, and is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it. [CCLR Sec. 15(2)]

    Observation. Licensing observed sleeping cots to be stacked on top of one another with bedsheets on. Due to the bedsheets being larger that the cots and not specifically designed for these cots, the bedsheets are loose and are touching other bedsheets.

    Observation. *A loose and unsecured extension cord attached to string lights in a plant was observed to be loosely wrapped around a post. *String lights located in the loft were not secure and accessible to children. *A large free standing white board in the main activity room has become unstable. *A wardrobe upstairs in the corner of the loft had 3 large items stacked on top. As children are sleeping right beneath this is a tipping hazard. *The gate meant to provide a barrier at the bottom of the stairs leading to the loft was not in place during today's visit.

    Observation. *A large free standing white board was positioned in front of one of the double exits located at the front of the building. Due to the fact both exits appear on the evacuation plan approved by the Fire Marshal, both doors must be free of obstacles.

    Observation. *A tire swing is hung in such a way that it bangs quite heavily into the side of the tree. This creates possibility of injury should a child's limb get caught/crushed between the tire and tree trunk. *There is a rotten plank on the small curved wooden bridge creating risk of foot entrapment. *A clear easel has become loose from the bottom of the frame making it unstable.

    Observation. *The bridge deck is rotted creating the possibility of a foot entrapment and much of the wood in the play yard is rotted. The Manager reports the yard is scheduled for a renovation.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. *Licensing observed that the barrier gate at the bottom of the interior stairs is not being utilized allowing children open access to the stairwell. *A shelving unit at the bottom of the interior stairs has a glass front that does not appear to be tempered glass. *There is a broken play kitchen with sharp bits located under the climber in the outdoor play yard. *The staff washroom was not secured, allowing children access to the hot water tank, as well as a tall folded up partition and a ladder. These items present a possible tipping hazard. *Due to Covid-19 protocols, Educators have arranged shelving, materials and furniture to create barriers/separation between the sleep mats in the upstairs loft. As there is sufficient space for the mats to be spread out, a discussion was held with the Manager in regards to the issues this practice creates such as tipping hazards (unsecured shelving) and the general "feel" of the cluttered environment, specifically as it pertains to respecting children and their spaces.

    Observation. *Oven cleaner was observed in an open and accessible lower cupboard. *2 bottles of spray cleaner were observed to be accessible to children on a low shelf outdoors under the covered area.

    Observation. *During today's visit, Licensing observed several rotten stumps, planters and beams located throughout the outdoor play yard. *The bridge has a plank with a hole in it, this poses a tripping or foot entrapment hazard. *There are large pieces of landscape fabric around the large tree that have become unearthed.
