- Licensing / DOLSOP /Active PlayNon-critical
The Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - is implemented and met. [DOLSOP September 2017 and Section 4(1)(e)of the CCALA]
Observation. Licensing had a discussion with the staff in regards to the amount of time the children spend outdoors and ensuring the program is meeting the DOLSOP Licensing reviewed the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice - Active Play with the staff . This was discussed during a previous inspection and an Active Play Policy was created by the program.
- PROGRAM / Program of activitiesNon-critical
Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]
Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed that the program appeared to be inflexible, staff lead and not meeting the needs of the children. Licensing also observed limited equipment, toys and supplies for the children. Licensing observed the following: * while inside children were not given the freedom to move around the room freely and choose different activities. Children were required to sign up for where they wanted to go . For example children signed up for what carpet they wanted to play on * children were required to sit at the snack table until all children had washed their hands, the children were then called up one by one and served snack by a staff. The children then had to wait at the tables until all children had finished snack, then line up to wash hands again * after snack all of the children were required to choose a book and sit and read for at least 30 minutes During this time Licensing observed children appear to become restless and kept getting up from the table, and then were reminded by staff to sit " on their bum" at the table. This is a long time for children to be required to sit and wait. Licensing had a discussion with the staff in regards to respecting the "needs and interests " of the children. For example when considering how and when snack will be offered to children - Licensing recommends letting the children use their independence and serve themselves snack. It was suggested that instead of the staff dishing out the snack that the snack is placed on the tables and tongs are available for the children to serve themselves. Please refer to Schedule G regarding offering a flexible daily program that responds to the needs and interests of the children.

If stored in the child's back pack, are all staff aware what the child's backpack looks like and where it is stored?
- STAFFING / Character and skill requirementsNon-critical
Prior to employing staff the manager has met with each person and has obtained the appropriate documentation. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)]
