  A licensee must ensure that children have at all times immediate access to an employee who (a) holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate, provided on completion of a course that meets the requirements of Schedule C.

  Observation. The licensee's first aid and CPR certification has recently expired.

  Corrective action. The licensee said that they already registered for a certification class next week.

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present is not available.

  Corrective action. The licensee has already applied for the criminal record check and is awaiting results.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the facility fence is in disrepair and has areas where there are gaps. The gaps are close to the top of the fence and are not at child height.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the facility, furniture and fixtures are in good repair.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed that there is a plastic climber and slide structure in which the slide part is close to the back wooden fence and is also placed on a mud/dirt area with rocks. Potential for children to come down the slide and crash into the wooden fence and hurt themselves. Additionally, the resilient surface is not adequate to prevent children from injuring themselves when coming down the slide and landing on the mud with rocks. Licensing provided education on resilient surfacing.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.
