    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During this inspection, Licensing observed: -some walls, baseboards and railings were visibly dirty -signs of wear and tear of some chairs indoor -signs of wear and tear of some picnic benches outdoors

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the facility is clean and all furniture are in good repair.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During this inspection, Licensing observed the following: -sharp knives and scissors were stored in drawers that are easily accesible by children in the kitchen area -an adult rake is accessible to children outdoors -cubbies are not secured and can pose as a tipping hazard (repeat contravention) -a cleaning spray bottle is accessible to children is not properly labelled but has a warning to keep out of reach of children -the fridge temp is above 4°C

    Corrective action. Staff mentioned that the cubbies are scheduled to be secured next Friday. The others items will be addressed.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. There are not enough emergency supplies available which includes expired water packs and a few food pouches.

    Corrective action. Staff said that they plan to replenish the supplies by the end of the month in time for the new school year starting in September.

    Observation. Upon review of several children's records, the telephone number of a medical practicioner is missing and some emergency contacts were missing.

    Corrective action. Staff mentioned that they will be reviewing children's records as they prepare for the new school year.

    Observation. Children's cubbies and two tall shelves were not anchored in the Preschool/School Age program posing a tipping hazard.

    Corrective action. Licensing was informed that the classroom set up had been recently changed and that they had not anchored the cubbies and shelves yet. Please ensure risk of furniture tipping is mitigated at all times.

    Observation. the following areas and or items were found outside and need to be addressed, the rake was found outside near the garden ,it was removed and put away at time of inspection , there was a wooden block under the rings as this presents a possible injury fixed at time of inspection , the turf on the mound is loose in one area presents a tripping hazard.

    Corrective action. please ensure that the turf is secured , staff stated that it will be addressed today.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The outdoor play area that was renovated was reviewed for corrections from the previous contraventions. The following items have yet to be corrected. - the tunnel mound has turf material on top, several areas have been secured and corrected, the back area still has loose sections that need to be secured, this equipment was confirmed to be closed and children are instructed not to use it until it is corrected. - the bike path which has eroded areas has been partially corrected, some areas have yet to be corrected, this area was confirmed to be closed and children are instructed not to use it until it is corrected. - the tunnel slide has been re-secured and reinstalled, the equipment though has some hazards related to the installation of the slide which includes; sharp flashing assessable to children, straps used to secure the slide to the frame pose a pinching hazard to the children playing in the area, frame securing the slide is loose posing a potential hazard to the children using the slide, the resilient surfacing under the slide is not suitable to protect the children from injury using the equipment. This equipment was also confirmed to be closed and children are instructed no to use it until it is corrected and photographs of the equipment were taken at the inspection. The LO reviewed these items in depth with the facility administrator at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Ensure outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Corrective action. Ensure children's files are complete including ensuring that a care plan is reviewed and updated at least every 12 months.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. The facility recently renovated the outdoor playground and several items were identified during the inspection as potential hazards for the children using the space. These items include; - exposed nails/screws accessible at the children's level in the garden area - the tunnel mound has turf material on top that has come loose in several areas posing tripping hazards - the bike path has exposed metal wire mesh assessable at the children's level - a tire swing attached to a tree does not have sufficient clearance for children to use it - the tunnel slide is not secure and is positioned at the bottom right beside a wooden structure which does not allow for enough clearance for children exiting the slide - resilient surfacing under the swings, monkey bars and base of the slide does not have sufficient depth to protect the children using the equipment The LO reviewed all of these items during the inspection with the facility manager. The manager communicated during the inspection that these items would be made inaccessible until corrected. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Ensure outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
