    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; -a door that was left open during the inspection. This door had hazardous objects and a hallway and a steep staircase which led outdoors. The Manager closed the door when Licensing inquired about the door. - the wood path leading into the outdoor playgrounds slippery. - there is an elevated wood play area in the group child care (under 36 months) playground that is very slippery. - the plastic covering on ground of the outdoor play area has become exposed and very slippery. Potential for children to fall and injure themselves. In the group child care (under 36) programs: - all cubbies not secured. - Fridge temperature in one classroom measured at 10 degrees Celsius - Air purifier sitting on a chair in one of the nap rooms - no resilient surfacing under a foam climbing and slide structure in one classroom - a tall rack not secured in one classroom. Climbing hazard and potential for a child to fall and injured themselves - tall plastic drawer. Toppling hazard. In the group child care (30 months to SA) programs: - one set of cubbies not secured. - two tall shelves not secured

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how the above noted items have been addressed.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; -the toys and equipment in the outdoor play area are very dirty. -The wooden picnic table in the outdoor play area has green grime on it and has several areas where the paint and wood has chipped off. - a diaper change mat has ripped and taped. However, the tape on the mat is starting to peal and has dirt on it. -a foam stool that has faded and ripping.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how the above noted items have been addressed.

    A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as Family Child Care or Child-minding, must have for each child at least 3.7 m2 of usable floor area in the community care facility, excluding (a) hallways, (b) built in storage areas, (c) bathrooms, and (d) fixed appliances, or, if not fixed, large appliances that are not normally moved from one area to another.

    Observation. Licensing observed the children's sleeping mats laid out in one area in one of the group child care (30 months to SA) program. The Manager said that this area was the sleeping room/area and beds were always left out during the day. Licensing explained that by setting up the mats it was taking away from the useable space for the children and was not enough space for 25 children.

    Corrective action. A written response to be submitted to Licensing on how this contravention has been addressed.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. There was no toilet paper in one of the group child care (30 months to SA) bathrooms. The Manager stated that the staff give the children pieces of toilet paper or can leave it on top of the toilet. Licensing had a discussion with the Manager on allowing children to have access to toilet paper on their own and placing toilet paper on the toilet tank cover is unhygienic

    Observation. Licensing observed insufficient food and drink in the emergency bag. Licensing observed one water and one energy bar for each child in the emergency bag. Additionally, the food for not age appropriate for the children in the group child care (under 36 months) programs. Licensing discussed having sufficient food for 72 hours for each child and staff. Licensing also discussed different types of food for the infants and toddlers.

    Observation. There is an area sectioned off by a fence within the Infant Toddler room C which is currently used as storage. This sectioned space was originally counted as usable space when capacity was determined for this room. Discussion had with Manager in ensuring that this space is used on a daily basis.

    Observation. Indoor: The following was noted at today's inspection: -The following furniture can be a topple hazard: all cubbies, shelving by office in Room D, air purifiers, piled up mail packages, large carpet roll on top of cart within Room D washroom, tall plastic drawer in room A, items piled on top of unused cribs in nap room in room B and seasonal items stored on counter in nap room B. Art storage by counter, shelf by microwave and art supply shelf in Room E. -Some areas of peeling paint by gate in Room B Outdoor Play Space: -Train recently removed from outdoor play space, some holes in the ground from structure need to be filled. -multiple areas where ground is very uneven and can be hazardous.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before February 23, 2024

    Observation. The following were noted: -Some areas that require some cleaning, on the walls by the bathroom entrance in room D & B -Trim taped on floor and wall in room A -Some vinyl furniture is ripped, no easy to clean (yellow ladybug & climber room B). -Outdoor play space, peeling paint on brown fence, small picnic tables.

    Corrective action. Please ensure facility is clean and in good repair.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Facility opens at 7:00 AM and mixes for the first half hour of operation. The first infant toddler staff does not arrived until 8:15 AM. First IT staff should be arriving at 7:30. Discussion had with Manager about ensuring that there is always an IT staff within the IT classrooms unless it is the first and last half hour of care and there are less than 8 children in care within the whole facility which is when the facility is able to mix.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility operates as per schedule E.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. In the morning, children are not signed into the room they originally attend. The attendance log for the other rooms are brought to the opening room that is used for care in the morning. When the teacher arrives for the day and is ready to collect their children from the opening room, the attendance log book is brought over to the newly opened room. Discussion had with Manager, examples provided - if the children are provided care within room A, they must be signed into that room A's attendance log book. When they leave that room to go to room B, they are signed out of room A and signed into the room B. This transition must be shown within the sign in and sign out.

    Corrective action. Please ensure attendance is accurate.

(CORRECTED). -Toilet paper was stored on top of the toilet rather than being placed within the toilet paper roll dispenser, unsanitary method to dispense toilet paper.
