    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. During the inspection, Licensing Officer observed a wooden adult chair in the classroom that had been tagged as broken. Discussion took place with regards to broken or damaged furniture poses a potential safety risk to children and staff.

    Hazardous objects and substances are inaccessible to children. [CCLR Sec 17]

    Observation. During the visit, Licensing Officer observed the following: -two unsecured cords accessible to children in the nap room which pose a potential strangulation and tripping hazard -children’s light table and a wooden wardrobe cabinet were being used to store staff materials. Discussion took place with regards to using children’s equipment and furniture for staff storage may limit children’s access to materials intended for their learning and play, and can create clutter or safety concerns within the classroom environment. -cleaning equipment, including brooms, dustpans, a mop, and mop buckets, stored directly next to the toilets and on the floor space. Discussion took place regarding the potential contamination risk associated with storing cleaning supplies in this area. This is not an appropriate storage location, as it may contribute to unsanitary conditions and increase the risk of cross contamination. -miscellaneous items were stored on the top shelf above the sinks. These items pose a risk of injury if they were to fall into the children’s area below.

    Observation. Notes from previous inspection visit: - LO observed that date of enrolment is not on file for several children. During today's visit the manager was not on site. LO will follow up via email regarding whether this issue has been addressed.

    Observation. Notes from previous inspection visit: - LO observed that several staff have criminal record checks that have been issued to other facilities. Manager stated that shared criminal record checks have been applied for through the CRRP. During today's visit the manager was not on site. LO will follow up via email regarding whether this issue has been addressed.

    The community care facility is operated in a manner that promotes the health, safety, dignity of the children in care. [CCALA Sec. 7(1)(b) Standards to be Maintained]

    Observation. LO observed a group of infants sitting on the ground and crying in the outdoor playground on a cold and very windy day. Several of the infants did not have hats or gloves. A staff member standing nearby did not appear to notice them and did not respond to their crying. LO observed her standing with her back to the group and not actively supervising them. A second staff was sitting in the playground holding an infant in her lap. She also did not appear to notice and did not respond the the crying infants.

    A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

    Observation. LO observed a group of infants sitting on the ground in the outdoor playground on a cold and very windy day. Several of the infants did not have hats or gloves. Most of the infants were crying. A discussion took place regarding ensuring that children are dressed appropriately for the weather. It is also important to set up the environment in such a way that children are shielded from the elements, especially non-walkers.
