  The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

  Observation. LO observed the following: • a foam bumper that was deteriorating and peeling from a wooden slide in one classroom • rubber baseboard is fastened to the wall with packing tape in one classroom

  Observation. LO observed that the exterior gate to the main entrance of the facility has a broken latch and cannot be closed.

  Care plans are not reviewed at least once a year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent. [CCLR Sec. 58(2)(b)]

  Observation. LO observed that several of the children's allergy care plans have not been renewed annually.

  Observation. LO observed inflated balloons stored by the front entrance of the facility. In one classroom, LO observed toys stored in the children's washroom. In one classroom, LO observed foam edging on windowsills that has been picked apart, posing a choking hazard.

  Observation. LO observed a broken and sharp corner on a low window ledge in one of the classrooms. The corner was covered in packing tape.

  Observation. LO observed that documentation is not on file for all staff: • missing records of work history • missing references • criminal record checks not issued to the facility

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]

  Observation. LO observed that ECE certificates were not verified for all staff.

• MEDICATION / MedicationNon-critical

  Medications that staff have agreed to administer are readily accessible to staff and are administered in the correct dosage at the correct times. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)]

  Observation. While there are care plans for children with allergies, two of them have not been updated annually, and there are two with Benadryl (which is not recommended by PHN as it can mask the sign of severe reactions and staff would have to make a judgment call when to use it).

  Observation. Discussion with staff and Manager regarding ongoing maintenance required and how to track what is needed and what has been done. It was suggested that a log could be kept by staff when they note an issue or item that needs repair / replacement. Some things noted at todays inspection include: chipped paint, broken toilet paper holder, latch on storage in room, room door not closing, and cleaning supplies such as brooms/dust bins being stored in room.
