Observation. Licensing noted that two educators had renewed their first aid certification. When reviewing the certificate it was realized the certificate does not meet the legislated requirements indicated in CCLR Sec. 23(1) and Schedule C.

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. There are pieces of furniture, both child sized and adult, that do not appear to have appropriate coverings to be laundered as the furniture is fabric and would need cleaning. Inside of fridge had visible debris, no thermometer. There is an electric baseboard in the main play space that is falling apart and has sharp edges. There are bi-fold doors in the nap room that do not have restrictors on them and as such create pinching hazards.

Observation. Children have access to the kitchen and the cupboards. The door restrictors were not in place and the cupboard under the kitchen sink contained hazardous substances.

Licensing observed: - Emergency cards were completed, photocopied, and placed in the emergency bag, but the information on the cards was illegible to read, which is a concern if the information was required in an emergency - The emergency bag no longer provides items like food and water to assist in an emergency.

Observation. Licensing observed that the outdoor space toys and equipment and the area had not been accessed for a extended period of time. Licensing spoke to the the Licensee and the staff about the importance of outdoor time for children and Educators.

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. Licensing observed that the bathroom is lacking additional storage for the additional diapers provided for the children. The extra diapers are currently stacked between the toilet and sink vanity in their individual plastic bags, causing possible cross contamination as well as children having access to open plastic bags. Licensing also observed when outside that the garbage and recycling containers are stored in the outside play area.

Observation. Licensing observed three children's files, which did not include the child's pictures. While Licensing was completing the inspections, the licensee took pictures of the children missing photos, for the child's file. Licensing also observed a child's file where there was no emergency contact information.

Observation. Licensing observed that one of the staff's work history was not included in the staff's file.

Observation. Licensing observed that the facility has been practicing fire drills on a monthly basis, but has not implemented an emergency drill at least once a year. Licensing explained to the Licensee the importance of practicing the drills for both the children and staff.
