- MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Three children's medication was not taken off-site during fire drill practice. Manager corrected this during inspection.
Corrective action. The Manager said that the medication will be brought off-site moving forward.

Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff.
Corrective action. The Manager said she will provide a form for the staff to identify immunization status.

Despite this section, during the half hour before a care program begins and the half hour after a care program ends, a licensee may permit children who would otherwise be grouped in different care programs, and who are arriving at or leaving the community care facility, to be grouped together and supervised other than as required under Schedule E if (a) the care program is described as Multi-Age Child Care, Group Child Care (Under 36 Months), Group Child Care (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age).
Observation. The programs are mixed for longer than 30 minutes (at the beginning of the day).
Corrective action. Please ensure the programs are combined for a maximum of half an hour.

Despite this section, during the half hour before a care program begins and the half hour after a care program ends, a licensee may permit children who would otherwise be grouped in different care programs, and who are arriving at or leaving the community care facility, to be grouped together and supervised other than as required under Schedule E if (b) a total of 8 or fewer children are present at the community care facility, of whom no more than 3 are younger than 36 months old.
Observation. Upon Licensing's arrival, there were 4 children under the age of 3 when the programs were combined.
Corrective action. Please ensure there are only 3 children under the age of 3 when programs combine.

- STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Two out six staff files were missing evidence of reference checks. Manager stated a voice mail was left for these references to call back but haven’t heard back from them yet. She was planning to follow up with them this week. Licensing offered education that the staff can provide additional references if the Manager is unable to contact the references in staff file.
Corrective action. Ensure character references are obtained and verified for each employee before they start employment.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that the spray bottles used for disinfecting were not replenished today. Staff mentioned that it was a busy morning as one staff arrived later than it's usual start time. Bottles were replenished with disinfectant solution during inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure that a system is in place to daily replenish the bottles with disinfectant solution .

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the following were accessible in an under the sink cupboard in one of the children’s washroom and an under the sink cupboard in one classroom: ·Toilet plunger ·Toilet cleaning brush ·Several unused black garbage bags .Plastic bags All these items were made inaccessible during inspection.
Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed plastic bags in a cupboard under the sink accessible to children in care. There is a gate blocking access to the kitchen area, however it was not closed. Staff educated it is usually a regular practice to ensure the gates are closed when the children are awake.
Corrective action. Please ensure children to not have access to any object that may be hazardous to their health or safety.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. Licensing reviewed 8 attendance records and noted 10 children were not signed out.
Corrective action. Please ensure the attendance records indicate arrival and departure times when the child is present.
