A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed: -In IC1 and TC2 classrooms, staff personal belongings were stored on shelves within children’s reach; staff removed them during inspection. -In TC1 classroom, plastic bags, gloves, and pet litter bags were kept in an unlocked cupboard under the sink, accessible to children; staff locked the cupboard during inspection.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: -Two crib railings had chipped paint in few areas. -In TC1 classroom several adhesive marks on the wall at children’s height with sticky residue and debris build-up -Bathroom used for DC1&DC 2 had a broken tile on the lower portion of the wall. It was covered by paper & masking tape. LO discussed using a non porous covering for easy clean up & sanitization. -In the outdoor area, few resilient flooring tiles were not flush together, beginning to show gaps posing as a tripping hazard.

Corrective action. Manager said there is a plan to address the above items.

The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. One child's care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

Corrective action. The manager will contact parents to review & update child's care plan.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. The school age program did not have a record of last month's fire drill.

Corrective action. Please keep records of monthly fire drills.

A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

Observation. the cribs in the infant room #1 and #2 the sides the paint is chipped on the tops and needs to be replaced or repaired the cribs have a low side on one side and it can be moved away from the wall creating

Corrective action. please ensure that the cribs are repaired and secured or turned around

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

Observation. Four washbasins used for hand washing by children in the infant/toddler and school age program washrooms measured at 50.8*Celsius. During inspection Manager lowered the main regulator of one the main hot water tanks.

Corrective action. Please ensure any water accessible to children in care measures below 49 Celsius.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Bottle with Advil medication, vitamin supplements & cell phone charging cord for staff use was stored in a cupboard that was accessible to children in the toddler program. These items were removed by the manager during this inspection.

Corrective action. Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During outdoor play in the infant program Licensing observed three children with visible nasal discharge. Staff told Licensing that today they forgot to bring hygiene supplies outside with them.Manager corrected this during inspection by cleaning children's nasal discharge and supplying the staff with hygiene supplies. Licensing offered education that children must have access to health and hygiene supplies at all times - In the infant and toddler program Licensing observed that one child's hands were not washed after the diapering routine. Licensing asked the staff to wash the child's hands. Staff said that they always wash children after diapering but today they forgot. Licensing offered education on the importance of practicing hand washing routines after diapering or a toileting routine for children and staff.

Corrective action. A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practice the rules of, health and hygiene

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. 21 children's files reviewed, one child was missing emergency contact information.

Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete before they start enrollment.

Observation. Licensing determined behavioural guidance provided was not appropriate to the age and development of the child.

Corrective action. Corrective action required.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Licensing observed the following in the infant room: ·Corner edging of a wall came off exposing the nails in the wall. ·Toilet roll holder in the bathroom was broken

Corrective action. Please ensure furniture, equipment and fixtures is clean and in good repair.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the infant room licensing observed a staff purse on the floor with medication accessible to children.

Corrective action. Ensure that staff purse and its contents are inaccessible to all children.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. 3 out of 5 staff files reviewed were missing valid criminal record check. Evidence of CRC application was on file.

Corrective action. All staff must have a valid criminal record check in their file before they start employment.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a low hanging cord plugged into the wall in the toddler room in reach of children. The cord was attached to a large, heavy stereo system. The concern is the stereo could fall if the cord was pulled. The cord was moved while Licensing was present.

Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.
