- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical
A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Soapy water spray was not available for cleaning surfaces in all rooms for the two-step cleaning process. Licensing was informed that soapy water spray and bleach/water spray are usually available in all classrooms; however, today it was missing. - Rough edges were beginning to show on some of the play mats and couches, affecting their ability to be properly cleaned. - In the Adventure Room, storage items such as bins and boxes on open shelves above the children’s napping area were not all secured, which may pose a falling hazard. - Some sleeping mats were observed to have bedding touching while on the ground and while being stored, which increases the risk of cross-contamination. - In the Infant Room, two sleeping cribs did not have space between them, which increases the risk of cross-contamination. The cribs were rearranged to create space between them during the inspection. - Some personal creams provided from home for their child are expired. The Manager noted that all creams from home will be reviewed for expiry dates.

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Licensing observed: - Multiple brown children's couches in the classrooms were showing signs of wear and tear, which have made the surfaces difficult to clean and disinfect effectively. - The staircase leading up to the changing tables exhibited signs of wear and tear, with the handrail appearing rough and splintered. - Rough edges were observed around the changing table - Caulking around the handwashing sink was found to be moldy - In the Adventure Room, storage items such as bins and boxes stored on open shelves above the children's napping area, which may pose a falling hazard.
- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical
Not free from hazards.; Not in good repair.; Not safely constructed.
Observation. Licensing observed: - Some tricycle pedals were missing and could potentially create injuries. A conversation occurred with the Manager that it's recommended to schedule spring cleaning and gardening activities, as some grassy areas appear to be exposed to the underlying landscape, which no longer provides young children with a safe fall zone ground surface.

- PROGRAM / Program of activitiesNon-critical
Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]
Observation. Children have access to a wide range of toys and materials indoors. In the outdoor play area, there appeared to be few toys available for children to choose from. During a prior inspection, Licensing noted that there were a variety of options for children. This should not only be available during summer months. In order to meet the requirements for Schedule G, more options need to be available for children. As with the planning and preparation for indoor activities, there should also be planning for outdoor activities.

- POLICIES AND PROCEDURES / Community Care Facility RecordsNon-critical
The policies and procedures referred to in subsection 1 are implemented by the employees.
Observation. As discussed in a prior inspection, it is important for staff to understand and then appropriately implement the policies and procedures. The licensee has made some progress in ensuring that staff have read the facility policies and procedures and has provided some additional information (such as emails sent to staff with videos of suggested practice) regarding expectations for staff in their interactions with and supervision of children. This is an ongoing process in order to make sure staff really understand the expectations. Licensing will come back in the next several weeks with an expectation that staff are implementing the updated policies and procedures.
