  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Upon inspection the following was observed: - 3 loose cords in the infant nap room located on the ground between two cribs - 1 loose cord in the 30 month to school art room The concern is they pose a strangulation hazard.

  Corrective action. The manager said the cords will be secured,

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection the cupboard under the sink in the 30 month to school age program was unlocked and had cleaning supplies accessible to children.

  Corrective action. Staff locked the cupboard

• A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.

  Observation. It was confirmed that continuous supervision was not maintained at all times.

  Corrective action. Corrective action plan required.

• A licensee must immediately notify a parent or emergency contact if, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, the child (b) is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H.

  Observation. It was confirmed that parents was not notified immediately of their children being involved in a reportable incident.

  Corrective action. Corrective action plan has been provided, no further action is required.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

  Observation. Hot water temperature in upper bathroom measured at 56.9 degrees Celsius.

  Corrective action. Ensure any heated water accessible to children is no more than 49 degrees celsius.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Heater in the lower children's bathroom had rust spots and peeling paint.

  Corrective action. Ensure the community care facility and the furniture, equipment, and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. The licensee has agreed to administer medication to a child; however, the amount is not specified in the child's record or care plan.

  Corrective action. Prior to agreeing to administer medication, ensure to obtain information regarding amount of medication to administer.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

  Observation. A care plan has not been developed to guide staff regarding a child who requires additional support.

  Corrective action. Ensure to develop a care plan with a parent to guide staff regarding a child who requires additional support.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. Three of the five children's records reviewed did not include immunization status.

  Corrective action. Ensure to obtain immunization status for each child

• If the child has a care plan that includes instructions respecting behavioural guidance, the licensee must ensure that (a) any behavioural guidance given to the child is consistent with those instructions.

  Observation. Licensing determined that the licensee did not always ensure that any behavioral guidance was consistent with the instructions in a care plan.

• A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

  Observation. Licensing determined that the outdoor play area is not always enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, ensuring that children are free from harm.

  Corrective action. No further action required.
