A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Upon inspection, multiple paint chips were observed in the childcare area.
Corrective action. Licensee said a plan is in place to repaint the childcare area. This will happen in the spring break, March 16th to 27th.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - STAFFING
The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation. A criminal record check was not obtained through criminal record review program but through RCMP for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present. .
Corrective action. Licensee said she will obtain the criminal record check for the person through the CRC review program.

Observation. Upon inspection the following was observed: - A staircase in the backyard that leads to the upstairs of the home did not have a railing along the bottom 6 stairs and is accessible to children. - Heavy books on a tall floating shelf hanging over the edge above the area the children sit and have lunch - Two devices with unsecured cords accessible to children
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Upon inspection, there were 4 months when fire drills were not recorded. The Licensee explained the fire drills were not practiced during those months.
Corrective action. Please ensure there is a record respecting compliance with section 22(2)(b) and (c) with regards to emergency training and equipment.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - two devices with unsecured electrical cords, plugged into electrical outlets and accessible to children in the room downstairs where children were napping, posing a potential entanglement risk - dog feces, thorny vines and a small broken table/chairs within the children's outdoor space - lysol spray on a counter within the reach of children in the space where children were napping downstairs
Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times while children are under the supervison of employees. Licensee removed the lysol spray during the inspection.

11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed Clorox and Lysol located next to the kitchen sink in the lower level of the home accessible to children. Licensing observed a child use the kitchen sink to wash their hands while the Licensee was upstairs. The Licensee removed the cleaning products while Licensing was on site.
Corrective action. Ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health or safety.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - OR SUPERVISION
A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.
Observation. Licensing observed the following supervision concerns during inspection: - Upon arrival, 3 school age children were playing in the backyard for 10 minutes while the Licensee was inside the upper level of the home with 2 children. Licensing heard the Licensee call out to the children in the yard two times. - Children of different ages were eating snack in the downstairs area of the home. The Licensee went upstairs while children were still eating. Discussions were held with the Licensee regarding ongoing supervision.
Corrective action. Ensure children are supervised at all times.
14060 - CCLR s.39(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (k) the date on which the child stops attending the community care facility. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed 6 children’s files and noted 3 did not contain the date the child stopped attending the facility. The Licensee recorded the information while Licensing was on site.
Corrective action. Ensure records are kept for each child, the date on which the child stops attending the community care facility.
19180 - CCLR s.57(2)(k) - STAFFING
A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.
Observation. The Licensee was unable to recall when the fire extinguisher was purchased.
Corrective action. Ensure fire extinguishers are serviced annually and a tag or receipt is available for review.
12180 - CCLR s.22(2)(a) - STAFFING
A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation. Licensing noted there were no records of fire drills being completed from August 2020 to February 2021. The Licensee said she was unsure if they were practiced.
Corrective action. Ensure fire drills are practiced at least once each month.
