  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

    Observation. There was a gap under the fence and above the boards of 11cm. It was discussed of entrapment hazards with the Manager.

    Corrective action. Ensure that all gaps are smaller than 9cm or larger than 23cm.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (a) suitable for the age and development of the children.

    Observation. -There is not adequate equipment to safely meet the varying developmental needs of the children receiving care in the outdoor play area. There were a few ride on toys observed in the infant toddler playground, and no additional materials outside of the climber located in the 3-5 playground. -There were small items located on shelves for children use in Toddler 2 that could pose a chocking hazard.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that she is going to talk to the staff about setting up the environment outside and removing choking hazards in Toddler 2

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Emergency supplies were reviewed and the amount of water was not enough for the capacity of the facility. Some food had already expired and some was about to expire. There were no provisions for toileting for children (infant toddlers or older children) if they were unable to access the building and there was no equipment such as bottles or sippy cups available for children who are unable to drink from a water bottle.

    Corrective action. The Manager said that she is going to update the emergency supplies.

    Observation. The Manager said that there is no transportation policy for children being transported by vehicle or by walking.

    Corrective action. Ensure that there is a transportation policy to guide staff in the care and supervision of children while transporting them.
