If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

Observation. medication was available to give children "as needed" without specific time or symptoms

Corrective action. Ensure that medication is given according to specific time or symptom.

The licensee must (a) develop the care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. Care plan not developed in consultation with the parent or any person requested by the parent or available for 4 or more children.

Corrective action. Ensure that a care plan is developed by the licensee in consultation with the parent.

Observation. A staff and 8 children entered a crosswalk without enough time to cross a street safely before the light turned red.

Corrective action. The licensee will provide a corrective action plan to address the contravention.

A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

Observation. There was a gap under the fence and above the boards of 11cm. It was discussed of entrapment hazards with the Manager.

Corrective action. Ensure that all gaps are smaller than 9cm or larger than 23cm.

A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (a) suitable for the age and development of the children.

Observation. -There is not adequate equipment to safely meet the varying developmental needs of the children receiving care in the outdoor play area. There were a few ride on toys observed in the infant toddler playground, and no additional materials outside of the climber located in the 3-5 playground. -There were small items located on shelves for children use in Toddler 2 that could pose a chocking hazard.

Corrective action. The Manager said that she is going to talk to the staff about setting up the environment outside and removing choking hazards in Toddler 2

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.

Observation. Some staff certificates were not posted in a prominent place in the facility.

Corrective action. Ensure that all staff educator or assistant certificates are posted in a prominent place in the facility.

A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this.

Observation. Medication was accessible to children in care.

Observation. A child requiring medication did not have any readily accessible to employees.

Corrective action. Ensure if you agreed to give a child medication it is accessible to employees

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Emergency supplies were reviewed and the amount of water was not enough for the capacity of the facility. Some food had already expired and some was about to expire. There were no provisions for toileting for children (infant toddlers or older children) if they were unable to access the building and there was no equipment such as bottles or sippy cups available for children who are unable to drink from a water bottle.

Corrective action. The Manager said that she is going to update the emergency supplies.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

Observation. The Manager said that there is no transportation policy for children being transported by vehicle or by walking.

Corrective action. Ensure that there is a transportation policy to guide staff in the care and supervision of children while transporting them.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

Observation. A care plan does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals for a child requiring additional support.

Corrective action. Ensure that the care plan includes the course of action for staff to safely provide care to a child.

The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. The care plan was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

Corrective action. The staff person said she will confirm with the parent today.

Without limiting subsection (2), if the duties of an employee include care for a child who requires extra support, a licensee must ensure that the employee has the training and experience and demonstrates the skills necessary to care for that child.

Observation. Staff for more than one child requiring extra support were not trained to work with the child in care.

Corrective action. The Manager said that she is going to train all staff working with children with extra support needs on what the care plan involves.

A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

Observation. Staff failed to ensure a child's dignity when taking photos and videos of them partially clothed, and leaving them in a diaper in the daycare area.

Observation. A staff person provided behavioural guidance that was not appropriate to the age and development of the child.

Observation. A parent was not made aware that their child was involved in a reportable incident.

Observation. Licensee did not notify the licensing officer within 24 hours that a child was involved in or may have been involved in a reportable incident as described in Schedule H as required.

A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

Observation. Toys from the infant toddler playground were stored in the emergency exit stair well opening.

Corrective action. Ensure that the emergency exits are not blocked.
