    Observation. Review of 6 staff files found 1 had an expired Criminal Record Check. Manager said it had been applied for but they have not received anything to date. Manager will ensure staff does not work alone and will update Licensing on the progress of the renewal.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a system is in place to renew Criminal Record Checks through the Criminal Record Review Board.

    Observation. It was observed that the nap cots were stored in the Group Child Care Under 36 month program bathroom next to the toilet under the change mat.

    Corrective action. Ensure that nap cots are not stored in the bathroom next to toilets.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. It was observed that the paint was chipping exposing gyprock in 2 classrooms accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the facility is in good repair while children are in attendance.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must have one toilet and wash basin for every 10 children or fewer.

    Observation. In 2 Group Child Care (under 36 month) programs the toilets were being used as storage areas. A photo was taken in one of the classrooms and can be provided to the facility upon request. In one of the classrooms a sink was also inaccessible.

    Corrective action. Ensure that there is one toilet and one washbasin is available for every 10 or fewer children.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. 2 programs diaper change mats were in poor repair with the material ripping and foam exposed. The mats are unable to be properly sanitized between uses. It was observed that there were high chairs and nap cots stored in one of the bathrooms.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the diaper change mats are in good condition and can be sanitized between uses. Please ensure that the high chairs and nap cots are not stored next to toilets.

    A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

    Observation. An old License was posted by the entrance to the facility documenting that it was operating with more care programs.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the current Licence is posted in a prominent area.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.

    Observation. A child with a care plan did not have the medication readily accessible. Another child with a care plan had medication that was expired.

    Corrective action. Ensure that any medication agreed to be given to a child is readily accessible to an employee.
