    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following items were observed at the time of the inspection and reviewed in depth with the facility manager; - some floor damage throughout which results in some areas not being effectively cleaned - several loose blind cords could pose a risk to children in the programs - use of rubber gloves by staff poses a risk for hygiene practices - several outdoor ground surface tiles are loose or damaged posing a tripping hazard - two areas on the outdoor fences have gap that pose a risk to the children playing in the area - debris along the side and back of a shed on the outdoor play area - damaged drainage spout poses a risk to the children playing in the area outdoors - cleanliness of outdoor climber observed during the inspection - food transportation practices observed not effective

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. -Some under three bathrooms' toilets have become inaccessible as the space is used for storage. -Soiled diapers observed in an uncovered container next to handwashing sink. -Towels draped over bathroom stalls for the purposes of drying.

    Corrective action. The Manager will provide a written response addressing above noted items.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. -Hole in a classroom wall. -Missing toilet lid in an under three bathroom. -Stall door not safely secured to the wall and is leaning. -Chipped paint on a windowsill which is exposing dry wall. -Some wear and tear on the facility's baseboards.

    Corrective action. Ensure the facility and the fixtures within it are in good repair.

    Observation. Three cribs that are no longer considered to be safe were observed, along with a soft crib mattress.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - an unsecured, heavy lamp with an unsecured cord within children's reach, placed on a toy shelf. If a child were to pull the cord, the lamp could fall and potentially cause injury. A staff corrected this by making the cord in accessible to children, during the inspection. - A video monitor and a lamp, sitting on a small table in a naproom with unsecured electrical cords, within the reach of children. These pose a potential risk of entanglement as some children sleep on cots and staff are not always present in the nap room.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    A licensee must have one toilet and wash basin for every 10 children or fewer.

    Observation. Licensing observed one toilet in a group - under 36 months program has been removed to create storage space and a toilet in another group - under 36 months program is inaccessible to children as it is used for storage as well.

    Corrective action. Ensure to have one toilet and wash basin accessible for every 10 children or fewer.

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. There were no written directions specified by the parent or care plan regarding the administration of a medication.

    Corrective action. When agreeing to adminster medication; ensure to obtain written directions from the parent.
