- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Licensing observed the following: - drywall and paint chips throughout both programs. -Some cracks running down walls -wire to speakers was hanging and removed by a staff during the inspection - a plug is missing a protector in the infant program -light bulbs not replace in the nap space -air vents visibly dirty - mouse poop was observed on the ground in the infant program. - outdoor area -landscape fabric exposed posing a tripping hazard -infant area smells like urine, the Licensee said they have been cleaning with baking soda and vinegar and plan to replace the turf. The Licensee said that they are having a contractor come in and complete the repairs inside to drywall and repairs and changes to the outdoor area in the summer. She will send Licensing the plan.
Corrective action. Ensure that the facility is clean and well maintained.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation. An early childhood educator who was working at the time of inspection did not have their certificate posted.
Corrective action. Ensure each certificate for educator or assistant is posted.
10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - MEDICATION
A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this.
Observation. Medication was accessible to children in care in a cubby and in an emergency supplies bin.
Corrective action. Ensure that medication is not accessible to children in care.
16030 - CCLR s.53(2)(a) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. A medication agreed to be given to a child was missing key information on the medication form.
Corrective action. Ensure that medication form is completed.

Observation. Licensing reviewed items in the emergency kit and there is not enough supplies to respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. LO observed many areas of the paint chips throughout the facility, exposing drywall to the children. Baby gate in IT room is broken and children have access to the kitchen/washroom where they store cleaning supplies and diapering creams.

A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.
Observation. LO observed that soiled diaper was placed in a bag under the washroom's sink. A covered container was not available to dispose soiled diaper.
Corrective action. Ensure that a covered container ( garbage bin) is available within the washroom.

Observation. Observation: The following was observed: - the landscape fabric in the 3-5 playground is exposed and poses a tripping hazard -a table that folds out of the wall in the infant program is breaking and disconnecting from the wall -both folding tables in the infant room are missing the washable cover on the table top leaving exposed raw wood that is unable to be sanitized. -the baseboard in the kitchen area next to a child's table in the infant program is coming off the wall -there are many areas of paint chips, including peeling paint and exposed drywall throughout the facility in both programs -the plate around the plug is missing in the infant nap room located next to a nap mat. -a pillar located in the main play area of the 3-5 program is cracked from ceiling to floor leaving exposed drywall and the wood beam. - several vertical cracks in the walls throughout the 3-5 room - a gap under the entance door, covered with tape - an electrical cord attached to the wall in the infant naproom, accessible to children which could pose a potential risk of entanglement - three holes in the wall in the main activity area of the 3-5 program, accessible to children Photographs were taken and will be provided to the Licensee.
Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Please provide your plan on how and when you will address the above information. Please provide Licensing with written confirmation from a qualified individual that the beam and wall cracks do not pose a health and safety concern to the children.

Observation. Two of 5 play pens where children sleep in the infant toddler nap area were broken and the sides unable to be secured in an upright position. Several of the mats in the play pens are not fitted to the size of the play pens. Several of the sheets in the play pens are very loose.

Observation. The Manager said they completed a fire drill in July and an earthquake drill in the last year. There was no written record of compliance

Observation. There were more than 20 children's files that did not contain the date when the child stops attending.

Observation. 10 children's files were unavailable for review. The Manager was unaware of where the files were located and said they may be in the other facility.

Observation. During inspection Licensing noted that the water in the Preschool classroom was measured at 56 degrees celsius. Manager explained that the plummber came and the temperature was adjusted on the hot water tank, it was then at 49 degrees celsius. The Manager stated that they will again contact the building manager and the plummber to bring down the water temperature.
