    Observation. - The safety gate, to prevent the children from accessing the stairs to the outside deck, was not safely secured. *Resolved during the inspection.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. - There was no system in place for the Licensee to ensure that the temperature of the small fridge, used to store some of the children's food items (e.g. bottles of milk/formula), did not exceed 4°C.

    Observation. - The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) certificate in place for the Licensee's employee was not validated by the Licensee through the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Registry of BC.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The employee hired by the Licensee to assist with caring for the children required a criminal record check in place that is specifically addressed to the Licensee. Another document that was observed by the Licensing Officer to be missing from the employee's file was evidence of immunization status. *An incomplete staff file was also noted by Licensing on the last routine inspection report dated Jan 11/23.

  • C2.1 - Are written policies and procedures in place to guide employees in all matters regarding the care and supervision of children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer observed missing supplies in the evacuation kit (i.e. blankets, an adequate supply of bottled water for the number of children in care, and activities for the children) as per what is listed in the Licensee's emergency plan. Some antiseptic wipes were observed to be expired in the first aid kit. *Correction date: July 5/24. - The large scale evacuation plan was not practiced or recorded annually. *Correction date: July 31/24.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer observed some child records that were missing required information such as doctor/medical clinic contacts. *This contravention was also noted by Licensing on the last routine inspection report dated Jan 11/23. - The Licensing Officer observed an incomplete emergency card for a child in care. This emergency information, including an photo of the child, must be readily available to the Licensee in the event of an emergency, especially when taking the children off site.*This contravention was also noted by Licensing on the last routine inspection report dated Jan 11/23. - The Licensee did not have a system in place for documenting minor incidents involving children in care. - An incomplete log of all play space inspections, repairs, and maintenance was observed by the Licensing Officer.*This contravention was also noted by Licensing on the last routine inspection report dated Jan 11/23.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The Licensing Officer observed hazardous debris stored behind the outside shed. The barriers in place to prevent the children from accessing the area behind the shed in the outside play yard was not secured. *This contravention was also noted by Licensing on the last routine inspection report dated Jan 11/23. - The Licensing Officer observed a hanging cord in the nap room that was accessible to the children in care. - The Licensing Officer observed hazardous products in the Licensee's bedroom that were accessible to the children in care. - The Licensing Officer observed medication in the fridge that was accessible to the children in care. *This contravention was resolved by the Licensee during the inspection.

    Observation. - Ensure the outside shed which stores hazardous objects and which is located in the outside play yard is locked when children in care are present. - Licensing observed hazardous objects stored behind the outside shed that were accessible to the children in care. - A section of the outside deck that is currently being renovated, was observed by Licensing to be accessible to the children in care. Ensure that the children do not have access to underneath the deck in the outside play yard.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. - Required documents, for a person employed by the licensee as a substitute staff, such as a resume, character references, criminal record check from the CCRP in Victoria, and immunization status had not been obtained. A RCMP check, however, had been completed for the sub staff person in error.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

    Observation. - Ensure child emergency records and up to date photos of each child in care are complete and readily available to the licensee and/or sub staff in the event of an emergency. - Ensure that an emergency contact other than the parents is listed for the child. - Ensure that the name and contact information for the child's doctor or local medical clinic is included in the child's record. - A log of all play space inspections, repairs, maintenance is required (*Correction date: Jan 12/23). - Written consents (i.e. parent signatures) were needed in the event that the licensee needs to call for an ambulance or medical practitioner.
