  • C2.1 - Are written policies and procedures in place to guide employees in all matters regarding the care and supervision of children?Non-critical

Observation. Child Care Licensing Regulation, Section 56 - Community care facility records and policies. C2.1G (CCLR 56 (1) (d)) The complaint information alleged that children's water bottles are not washed on a regular basis. Two employees explained to the Licensing Officer the current process for washing the water bottles is to put the water bottles through the sanitization dishwasher at the end of the day. With in the last few days, the procedure included washing with soap and water when there was visible dirt. The brush used to wash the dirty water bottles is large and does not fit in the small straws. The Environmental Health Officer, who was present at the inspection, explained the sanitizing dishwasher might not ensure the small spaces/pieces (such as straws) are appropriately sanitized. The three-step sink method, which includes soaking in water with a sanitization solution would ensure the solution gets into the small spaces such as the straws. Based on the information gathered during the inspection, the Licensing Officer determined the policy and procedures to guide the employees in the care of the children, specific to sanitizing water bottles, is inadequate. The complaint is substantiated. Ensure adequate cleaning and sanitizing policies and procedures are developed and implemented to guide the employees in the care of the children which includes providing clean water bottles. Submit to licensing a detailed written plan which addresses how you have corrected the contravention and the system you have implemented for ongoing monitoring to ensure compliance.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

Observation. Child Care Licensing Regulation, Section 17 - Hazardous objects and substances. C7.1L (CCLR 17) The complaint information alleged that children's water bottles are not washed on a regular basis leading to a green biofilm on the bottle which, when ingested by children, could lead to potential illness. The Licensing Officer inspected a random selection of water bottles and found such green biofilm on two of the bottles; one was significantly covered in the green film. The complaint is substantiated. Ensure children are not exposed to any potential hazardous substance and provide to Licensing a detailed written plan that addressed how this identified contravention has been addressed.
