  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Fridge temperature measured 8.8 °C & condensation was observed on the back wall . Staff lowered the temperature setting during inspection. Licensing officer measured the temperature mid way through the inspection and it measured 6.6 °C.

  Corrective action. Manager said a fridge thermometer will be purchased to monitor and maintain the recommended temperature of 0 - 4 °C.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. During inspection Licensing observed: - 3 cribs with chipped paint on the railings, exposing the wood underneath. -Diaper change pad edges had rips & tear , exposing the foam underneath.

  Corrective action. Manager replaced the diaper change pad during inspection & said chipped paint on the railings will be addressed.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One staff file did not contain evidence of reference checks being verified. The manager said that references were contacted by phone; however this was not documented.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. One staff file had a valid criminal record check; however it was not addressed to this facility. Manager said CRC application has been submitted but there are issues accessing it on the portal.

  Corrective action. Manager will follow up with the Criminal Record Review Program to look into this issue.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. One of the playpens had a finger sized hole in the mesh.

  Corrective action. The Licensee advised that they have another playpen that will be used for nap time today.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): There was no record of certificate validation for 2 staff.

  Corrective action. The Licensee validated the certificates today and took screen shots.

  Observation. Upon review of staff files, criminal record checks are not site specific. The Manager indicated that applications have been complete and submitted. Licensing was able to review this on site.
