    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Outlets were uncovered in the nap room. - There are plants with thorns accessible in the outdoor play area.

    Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

    A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

    Observation. The fire drill for Oct 2025 was not recorded. The Manager said that this was completed, but was not recorded.

    Corrective action. The Manager will record the fire drills.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

    Observation. The Manager's renewed ECE certificate was not validated by the system maintained by the Registry.

    Corrective action. The Manager will validate her certificate and keep the results in her file.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. During an audit of the emergency supplies, it was found that the Licensee did not have 72 hours worth of food and water stored in the event of an emergency. The Licensee stated that she has asked in the parents in the past to bring these supplies, but they have not, and added that she did not know this was required in the legislation. The Licensee will provide these supplies and will respond to Licensing once they are obtained.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there are sufficient emergency supplies to respond to and recover from any emergency.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the backyard: - The garden hose is unraveled and poses as a tripping hazard - There is a cord for outdoor lights sprawled across the walkway which poses as a tripping hazard

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the outdoor play area is free from hazards.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During an audit of the washroom, it was found that the bathroom cabinet was unlocked and contained cleaners and hygiene products. The Licensee explained that she is always supervising the children while in the washroom. Licensing explained the cabinets must be locked to prevent access to hazardous substances or materials.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    A licensee must display a copy of the fire drill system in a prominent place in the community care facility.

    Observation. There were no fire drill records available for review. The Licensee explains that she practices them with the children, but did not know they needed to be recorded. In the legislation, fire drill records are required to be documented.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a copy of the fire drill records are displayed in a prominent place in the facility.
