A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): There was an insufficient amount of food in the emergency supplies bag. The Manager said that there are some food in the kitchen cabinet, however, Licensing explained that supplies should be in one place in the event of an emergency.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. A current CRC was not obtained for 1 staff.

Corrective action. The Manager will address the contravention.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Upon inspection of the bathroom, it was observed that a drawer on the diaper change mat was broken.

Corrective action. Ensure that the furniture, equipment and fixtures in the facility are in good repair.

A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

Observation. The Manager's name was not posted.

Corrective action. Please ensure that the Manager's name is posted and in a prominent place.

A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.

Observation. Information on the food and drink given to children is not available to parents.

Corrective action. Please ensure that parents are informed on what food and drinks are given to children while in care.

A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (b) the nature of the child's medication is such that, without immediate access to the medication by the child, the child's health will be significantly at risk.

Observation. A child with allergies did not have their EpiPen accessible while in the outdoor playground.

Corrective action. Please ensure a child's medication is accessible to the staff in the event of an emergency.

The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Observation. A care plan for a child with allergies was available for review but did not have evidence of being reviewed with the parent.

Corrective action. Please ensure the care plan is reviewed and signed at least once a year with the parent of the child requiring extra support.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

Observation. A child with allergies had a care plan but did not include the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support.

Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is developed that includes the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support as made by health care professionals.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

Observation. A child with allergies had a care plan but did not show the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child.

Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is developed showing the courses of action recommended by health care professionals.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Lysol wipes and a spray bottle of cleaning product were accessible to children in the bathroom.

Corrective action. Cleaning products must not be accessible to children in any areas of the facility. The cleaning products were moved during this inspection.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. The following were observed during this inspection: a sink in the children's bathroom has several cracks in it, the gate separating the play areas and the facility kitchen is missing parts and is not working.

Corrective action. Please ensure all areas of the facility are in good repair. The Licensee will submit a plan to CCFL stating how these items are to be corrected by July 9, 2020.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. The following were accessible to children: A product used in a toilet, cleaning products, sharp knives in a kitchen draw. The cleaning products and the toilet product were removed during this inspection.

Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to products that could cause harm.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. All children were using the same towel to dry hands on in the kitchen.

Corrective action. To stop the spread of germs single use towels must be available.

A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.

Observation. Marshmallows are being used as an incentive for toilet training.

Corrective action. Food is not to be used as a reward and using food as an incetive during toilet training does not promote healthy eating habits. CCFL discussed ways staff can provide incentives (eg sticker chart) with the manager.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

Observation. A fire drill was not carried out and recorded for the month of June 2020.

Corrective action. Please make sure a fire drill is carried out and recorded every month.
