  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Observed an unlocked drawer in the bathroom, accessible to children, containing prescribed medication for a household member. Other personal products were also accessible in this area. Cupboard locks were in place but not utilized.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a safe space at all times, keeping personal products inaccessible to children.

  • STAFFING

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.

    Observation. A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one employee working alone today.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff are completely screened and documentation available prior to employment

    Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one employee working on site today..

    A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.

    Observation. Staff working on site today has not conducted a fire drill. This staff has occasionally worked in place of the Licensee and is unaware of where emergency equipment is located.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staff are appropriately orientated in emergency drills, particularly of solely supervising children.

  • STAFFING

    Despite the employee qualifications required by Column 4 of the table in section 1 of Schedule E [group sizes and employee to children ratios], a licensee must replace an absent employee described in Column 1 of the following table who is absent (a) for fewer than 30 consecutive days with a person described in Column 3 opposite that employee and the row in Column 2 labelled as "< 30 days".

    Observation. Staff on site today holds a Responsible Adult certification when replacing the Licensee who is ECE certified. Covering staff, due to illness or emergency absence must hold ECE or ECEA status.

    Corrective action. Please ensure staffing meets the requirements of legislation during such times of absence.
