  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. - Fridge temperature was below 0 degrees Celsius - Fabric cloth was used for the changing mat which makes it difficult to clean and sanitize after each diaper change - Mouse traps and sticky mouse traps were placed in the storage space by the book reading area, where a bouncy chair and two portable heaters were also stored. Mouse droppings were observed on the sticky mouse traps placed in this storage space. The storage door is closed with child proof lock to ensure children will not have access to the items stored inside. - Sticky mouse traps were placed in the storage space next to the washroom, where children's extra boots and other items were also stored. Although the storage door is closed with child proof lock to ensure children will not have access to the items stored inside, children's items should be stored in a clean and sanitized area.

    Corrective action. Manager will correct the above contraventions to ensure that the environment provided for the children is healthy and safe

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. - Children attendance was reviewed between March and May, 2026, and the attendance indicated that 9 children were in care in four days within those three months. - There were four children under the age of 36 months attending the facility, and of those four children, one of them was under 12 months. Although the child under 12 months had an approved temporary placement, attendance record showed that the child continued to attend after the temporary placement expired on April 12, 2026.

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure that her total capacity will remain 8 children, and an updated temporary placement request will be submitted within today (June 3, 2026) for the child under 12 months.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Toilet cleaner and bleach were accessible to children in the bathroom. A space heater that is hot to the touch and the space heater wire are accessible to children in the nap room.

    Corrective action. The toilet cleaner and bleach were removed during this inspection. The manager will ensure children do not have access to the space heater or its cord.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Paint behind the bathroom sink is peeling, the gate to the yard is difficult to latch and mouse droppings were present in a storage cupboard.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure that all areas of the facility are clean and in good repair.

    Observation. Nap mats and bedding are touching each other. To mitigate the risk of the spread of germs mats and bedding must not touch.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure all nap mats and bedding do not touch each other.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. There is not enough food for up to 72 hours for all children. Food in the emergency kit has expired. The fire extinguisher is overdue for servicing.

    Corrective action. The manager will ensure there is enough food for 72 hours and that all food has a current expiry date. The fire extinguisher will be serviced.
