• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Paint chipping on the doors and walls in the facility; dry wall showing - Carpet showed visible signs of stains all throughout the facility

  Corrective action. Ensure the facility is in clean and good repair.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. Furniture, equipment, and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: It was observed - In the nap room many items i.e cardboard boxes, supplies and bleach bottles were stored on top of cabinet. -Cabinet door will not close flush due to over fill of supplies/items. -Children's sleeping mats are located next to the cabinet whose door wont close flush. -The drain pipe in the main daycare room was accessible to children and did not have a door attached to the cupboard. Drain pipe occasionally leaks and a bowl was kept underneath the drain pipe to catch water. -The portable dryer is placed on a table next to children's eating area in the kinder room. The dryer was shaking while running and had bleach bottles stored on top it. -Sleeping mats have rips and tears and the foam from inside is coming out of the vinyl covering.

  Corrective action. Manager will be reporting it to HR to address all the items. Manager removed the bleach bottles from the top of the cabinet and dryer. Sleeping mats next to the cabinet were moved farther from it.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. During the inspection of the staff files it was observed that one staff had no record of immunization. An immunization form with the employee's name was available but it was not completed nor was it signed by the employee.

  Corrective action. Please ensure all staff has proof of immunization record on file.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.

  Observation. First aid kits were not readily accessible to staff and children outside who were playing in the lower playground. The assistant manager stated that the staff have to call the manager, and have them bring the first aid kit out.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to have first aid kits readily accessible to all employees.

  A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

  Observation. The following items were in need of cleaning, replacement, or repair: -8 nap mats had cracking and missing vinyl, exposing the foam below, this makes it difficult to sanitize between use. -2 children's chairs in the School Age classroom were visibly dirty. -The carpet in the nap room was soiled in multiple places.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the furniture, equipment, and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. 6 children's files were reviewed. 1 file was missing medical practitioner's name and phone number.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep record of the name and telephone number of the medical practitioner.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.

  Observation. 6 children's files were reviewed. All reviewed files were missing a photo or digital image of the child. The assistant manager stated that these were kept on a cell phone, however, the cell phone was not readily available.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a photograph or digital image of each child is readily available in the event of an emergency.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

  Observation. 6 children's file's were reviewed. 3 files were missing immunization status.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to keep for each child, a record showing immunization status.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry, Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 4 staff files were reviewed. One staff file was missing a validation.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a record of verification of Early Childhood Education and Early Childhood Education Assistant is on file.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. 4 staff files were reviewed. 1 staff file had an application from 2019 for a criminal record check, but the record of it's completion was not on file.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff criminal record checks are available and current.
