    Observation. DLSOP Safe Play Space – There is no system in place to ensure regular checks and maintenance of equipment.

    Corrective action. The manager said they will consider a plan and provide a written response.

    When advertising or otherwise offering services to the public, a licensee must identify the care program being offered.

    Observation. A posted parent letter/notice for families included the name preschool. The attendance records showed more than 30 children registered for 2 hour and 4 hour classes 2 days per week, both pieces of information support that the Group Child Care (30m-SAC) classroom is operating as a preschool program. This is a repeat contravention. (Photos taken and a copy was provided to the manager).

    Corrective action. The manager said they will consider a plan and provide a written response.

    Observation. Sign next to the door, registration forms, and schedules in the program said preschool. Group Child Care (30m-SAC) is the only care type offered.

    Observation. On Friday afternoons from 4pm-5pm a dance class is offered to children who attend the program. On at least one occasion there were 21 children in the classroom licensed for 16 children, with 1 ECE staff, and two dance teachers.In the second classroom there were 3 children with an ECE staff.

    Corrective action. Licensee will consider a plan to ensure compliance, and provide a written response.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. -The cubbies located in both classrooms were not secured to the wall, providing risk for tipping. -One toilet paper dispenser was broken leaving a hole in the wall next to the toilet. -Plastic bags were located in a cupboard under the sink in the GCC(30m-SAC) program (corrected during the inspection). -no gate at the top of cement stairs leading to the GCC(30m-SAC) classroom.

    Corrective action. The licensee has provided licensing a plan to fix the wall in the bathroom and anchor the cubbies by May 31, 2024

    Observation. During the inspection it was noted that there is a tutoring program that occurs monday-friday from 3:30-5:30pm in the GCC(30m-SAC) program. During this time the children enrolled in GCC(30m-SAC care are combined with the Preschool program from 3:30-3:45pm in the preschool classroom. On review of the attendance and enrolment records, the group was noted to be regularly combining the group, exceeding the sizes in Schedule E and is mixing care types in the classroom.

    Corrective action. Licensee will provide a plan, that includes moving the tutoring class to outside operational hours.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the water temperature in a bathroom located in the Preschool room was reading over 51 degrees celcius, measured with a digital thermometer. The staff said that children generally use the other bathroom with one sink and one toilet, where the hot water is shut off.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that hot water, accessible to children in care, remains below 49 degrees celcius.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the attendance records for the Preschool program showed 3 children in attendance that were actually attending the Group Child Care (30-SA) program. These children attend for a half hour prior to the daycare staff arriving, but were not signed out. Discussed appropriate methods for accurately reflecting the information.

    Corrective action. Please ensure attendance records accurately reflect children's movements between programs.
