Observation. The outdoor play structure's climbing wall is not adequately attached to the main structure. This may result in a child falling backwards when trying to climb. The Child Care Licensing Regulation requires that all equipment used by children be safety constructed and free from hazards in order to prevent risk of injury. Licensing must receive written confirmation that the play structure no longer poses a risk of injury to children in care, no later than November 14, 2025.

Observation. Hazardous cleaner located under kitchen sink was found to be accessible to children in care. Laundry detergents located on top of laundry machines were also accessible at time of inspection. The Child Care Licensing Regulation requires that children not have access to any hazardous substance. These items pose a serious health risk if ingested. Licensing must receive written confirmation that these substances are no longer accessible to children in care no later than November 14, 2025.

Observation. Radon gas results have not yet been received. The licensee will place a new long term test kit out in order to get a reading that can be re-submitted to a laboratory.

The Child Care Licensing Regulation requires that all facility records be kept in a single location at the facility. This ensures information can be retrieved in a timely manner when necessary. Licensing must receive written confirmation that records have been located and will be kept in a common place with all other facility records no later than November 14, 2025.

Observation. A new record has been in use for recording monthly fire drills, however, this record does not include June and July. Dates of drills practiced during these months could not be located at time of inspection. Licensee to create a new fire drill record that includes all 12 months to be used going forward. Licensee to continue to source out someone qualified to inspect fire extinguisher on an annual basis.

Observation. Employee file is still in progress. Immunization status, criminal record clearance letter and copy of valid first aid is required. A detailed plan to ensure all requirements are in place prior to use of this employee must be submitted to Licensing.

Observation. A bathroom renovation was started prior to Licensing approval. Licensing was notified of this renovation while it was underway and a plan to ensure the safety of children in care was discussed at this time. Construction occurred outside of childcare hours. Licensing must be notified of any future structural changes to gain approval prior to the start of the project.

Observation. Records for monthly fire drills and annual emergency plan review were found to be incomplete. THESE CONTRAVENTIONS WERE IDENTIFIED DURING PREVIOUS TWO INSPECTIONS. Fire extinguisher requires inspection annually by qualified technician.

Observation. Licensing has not yet received the results of a test for radon gas. A long term test must be completed during the cold months for a minimum of 90 days.

Previous days' records could not be located and records reviewed did not consistently include both times of arrival and departure. LO discussed with licensee the importance of implementing a new system that will ensure daily attendance is adequate and stored in a single place. THIS CONTRAVENTION WAS IDENTIFIED DURING PREVOIUS INSPECTION. LO asked to review registration records for 5 children in attendance at time of inspection. Only one record could be produced during inspection. This record did not contain a care card number as required. LO discussed with licensee the importance of implementing a new system of storing all child records to ensure information does not get misplaced. THIS CONTRAVENTION WAS IDENTIFIED DURING PREVIOUS INSPECTION. Various records could not be located or were not located in a single location at time of inspection.

Observation. Hot water temperature was measured at 56 degrees Celsius at time of inspection. Must not exceed 49 degrees to prevent risk of injury. Facility bathroom and fridge in kitchen in need of cleaning. A system must be established to ensure all areas of facility that children have access to are cleaned on a regular basis. TV located in living room area is not mounted and sits unsteadily on stand. Please ensure TV is secured to prevent risk of injury to children in care.
