A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Licensing observed the following: *a soiled travel potty seat with a child’s feces was left accessible in the children's bathroom while several children were seen washing their hands. The Licensee stated that the portable potty seat became soiled while changing a child who had a bowel accident. Due to the high risk of cross contamination, Licensing informed the Licensee that the potty seat must be properly cleaned/sanitized when visibly soiled or removed from children’s access. The Licensee temporarily closed the bathroom with the soiled toilet and opened the secondary washroom for children's use. A discussion took place regarding the importance of maintaining hygienic practices and preventing any opportunity for children to come into contact with any contaminated items. (Compliance achieved during inspection) *a child’s soiled clothing was stored in a plastic bag and left on a diaper changing mat in the hallway, accessible to children. Discussed providing a covered container designated for soiled items. *a thick layer of dust was observed accumulating inside the bathroom vents. The vents require cleaning to ensure proper air circulation. *multiple spider webs and old cobwebs were hanging from the ceiling and in the enclosed patio area. Discussed the need to remove webs promptly as old cobwebs may pose a hazard if inhaled by children. *the smoke alarm detector in the hallway appeared damaged and was hanging from the ceiling with exposed wires. This poses as a safety hazard. *mouthed toys were accessible to children. Discussed establishing a system in place to store and properly sanitize mouthed toys before reuse. *a fridge designated for the childcare program was located in the cubby area. Discussed installing a child safety strap to prevent children from accessing cooking ingredients stored inside the fridge.
