  • NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES / NutritionNon-critical

Instructions in a child's record or care plan respecting food and drink for the child are followed. [CCLR Sec.48(2)]

Observation. Reviewed care plans with AS and staff team member. Care plans are posted in the office. Noted there was one Life Threatening Anaphylaxis plan that noted the peanut allergy as "mild", no epipen provided. AS stated she would follow up with the family to gain clarification. Staff team should not be placed in the position of having to make potential life or death medical assessments.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

Employees have access to reliable communications equipment in an emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(4)]

Observation. Staff member approached AS and advocated for a third radio. Currently there are two radios which only allows the group to break into two groups. Today there was one staff with one child with a radio and the rest of the group with two staff with one radio. Staff member stated that if there was a third radio they could follow children's interests / needs & break into three groups. Three radio are required to maintain communication for safety and supervision.

  • PROGRAM / Program of activitiesNon-critical

Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]

Observation. Last routine inspection (November 2022), CCFL noted the lack of program materials and supplies. The staff team and Manager were encouraged to conduct an inventory and to replenish and expand on supply. Manager responded with the purchasing of play materials. Today, shared observation with AS that the amount, variety and number of program materials is lacking in key areas. For example the lego collection is an area of keen interest but the supply is limited and does not expand beyond basics. AS concurred that more could be offered the children and she has taken note of areas to build on including crafts, construction and pretend play. We also noted that areas are not set up to be inviting to the children. AS stated she had observed this and will be speaking with both School age program teams to encourage this practice. We noted that as soon as one of the staff put out the boxes of construction materials, children began to engage. AS stated her commitment to collaborating with the staff team to create invitations to play and expand on the supply of play materials, including range and number of construction materials. Children have access to outdoor play, rain or shine, everyday.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

Observation. The Grandview II staff team are responsible for conducting and recording daily playground inspection. Today CCFL reviewed playground inspection logs for Grandview II. It appears that recording of playground inspections has lapsed again. There are large gaps in record, sometimes weeks or months are missing. Spoke with AS and staff team members. All stated their commitment to getting this practice back on track. Until Grandview II is in compliance, Grandview III will remain in noncompliance in this area.
