Observation. At the time of the inspection, there was no covered container in the children's washroom. The Licensee noted that diaper changes occur in this washroom and soiled clothing is taken to an outdoor bin. To minimize cross-contamination, a covered bin should be available in the washroom for soiled clothing, and a separate bin for hand towels.

Observation. In the kitchen area, which was accessible to children, Licensing observed the following: - Dish detergent pods in a cabinet. The cabinet was then locked and corrected during the inspection. - Adult scissors in a drawer, which were relocated and corrected during the inspection. - Can opener in a drawer, which was relocated and corrected during the inspection. - Food in a pot on the stovetop. The pot was hot to the touch, and the element was or had been in use. A discussion occurred with the Licensee regarding this and the potential hazard to children.

All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]
Observation. Large climbing equipment was observed in the outdoor play area, located in the woodchip area and partially on the concrete. The equipment does not have a six-foot safety zone. Given the height of the equipment, protective loose-fill surfacing meeting or exceeding minimum requirements is required but was not in place. At this time, the equipment poses a fall hazard. A slide and a seesaw were positioned at the edges of the woodchip area near the concrete and fence, without safety zones, creating a potential risk of injury. Licensing will provide the Manager with the 'Director of Licensing Standards of Practice: Safe Play Space' document.

Observation. Emergency preparedness supplies are sufficient to meet the needs of the children and Licensee for a minimum of 72 hours. However, the items such can food supplies and snacks had expired.

Observation. Licensing observed a secondary staff member was present at the time of inspection, and while the necessary certifications such as CRC, RA Certification, and First Aid Certification were provided, however the staff file were found to be incomplete. The essential information such as their resume, references, and immunization status were not on file.

Observation. Licensing observe there were rotting fence panels with sharp edges present in the outdoor children's play area. The wood panels seem to be aging and worn out, posing a potential safety hazard to the children.

Licensing observed that the emergency supplies were stored inside the office, where other storage items have been piled on top of the emergency supplies making them inaccessible in case of an emergency situation. A discussion took place that the emergency supplies should be easily transportable during evacuation procedures and supplies are readily available and can be accessed without any hindrance.

Covers were not provided and this could potentially allow access from animals such as cats, birds, and raccoons.
