Texada Elementary School

The community care facility is operated in a manner that promotes the health, safety, dignity of the children in care. [CCALA Sec. 7(1)(b) Standards to be Maintained]

Observation. As staff does not have a valid first aid certificate nor are they keeping appropriate records, the facility is not promoting health, safety and dignity of the children in care.

There is current log of minor incidents, illnesses and unexpected events, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H. [CCLR Sec. 56(1)(f)]

Observation. Staff do not keep a log of minor incidents or unexpected events.

A record for each child containing a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(i)]; A record for each child containing the name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact is not kept. [CCLR Sec. 57(2)(d)]

Observation. There are no photos of the children in care on the staff's electronic system nor do they have any emergency contact info.

Fire drills are not practiced at least once each month. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)]

Observation. Staff do not practice a monthly fire drill.

Children do not have immediate access to an employee who holds a valid first aid and CPR certificate described in the regulations. [CCLR Sec. 23(1)(a)]

Observation. Staff operating the after school portion of the program advised that she does not hold a valid first aid certificate.
