- MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation. Medication was not readily accessible to employees as an epi-pen is kept indoors at all times.
Corrective action. The Manager will bring the epi-pen in their emergency back pack that they bring everywhere with the children.
16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation. Upon review of several children's records, three were missing the date of enrollment.
Corrective action. The Manager said the records will be updated.
19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation. June 2024 fire drill was missed.
Corrective action. The Manager will ensure that fire drills are done.

Observation. Licensing reviewed four staff files. A criminal record check could not be found for one staff member.
Corrective action. The Manager will attempt to locate this criminal record check. If it has not been completed, the facility will apply for this document immediately.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following in the single washroom, which was identified as a staff washroom however is required to be available for children in care; - storage has overtaken the space, with items stacked high on shelves, on the floor, blocking the toilet and under the sink - food (identified as teacher snacks) was also stored in the washroom - Emergency supplies were stored in a cloth suitcase inside the washroom with some of the supplies being expired. In addition, storage space is limited and is overflowing in other areas, including the back of the class, by the teacher sink as well as the boot area doesn't provide a clear egress route.
Corrective action. Ensure that all areas in the child care facility are healthy & safe for children,
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. A random selection of children's files were reviewed, 2 out of 3 files reviewed were missing the names and numbers for emergency contacts.
Corrective action. Please ensure all children's file have a record of an emergency contact to call in the event that the parents are unreachable.
19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Complete immunization status was not obtained for one or more employees.
Corrective action. Please ensure immunization status is available for all employees. Licensing provided a copy of the Staff documentation of Immunization status.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. The fire drill log revealed that a fire drill was not completed in November & December 2020 as well as in June 2021.
Corrective action. Please ensure all staff participate in a fire drill at least once a month. This drill must be documented. Discussed fire evacuation and emergency evacuation processes.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.
Observation. During today's inspection besides the main entry door, both other exits were blocked by furniture.
Corrective action. Please ensure exits are accessible in the event of an emergency.
11090 - CCLR s.15(1)(b) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. One of the toilet tanks lids has a significant chip and a crack due to being dropped. The sharp edge of the porcelain poses a risk to children in care.
Corrective action. Please ensure the fixtures within the facility are in good repair and do not pose a risk to children. Staff took immediate action and covered the chip with tape. Please provide a plan to address this situation more permanently, as well as a supervision/safety plan to ensure that this doesn't occur again.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. A jar of medicated diaper cream was observed inside an unlocked low cupboard in the children's washroom. This product is labeled "keep out of reach of children"
Corrective action. Please ensure medicated products are stored in a way that children do not have access to them.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - STAFFING
A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation. During the first year of operation, there have been a number missed months for all staff to participate in implementing the fire drill system.
Corrective action. Please ensure that all employees practice implementing the fire drill system at least once a month. Suggestions on ways to set reminders to ensure a monthly drill is implemented was discussed.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation. The regular employee on site has not yet completed practicing the emergency plan since the facility was open over a year ago.
Corrective action. Please ensure all employees practices implementing the emergency plan at least once a year.
