• HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

  A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

  Observation. There was a fabric sheet covering the diaper change mat. The fabric sheet is not immdeiately santizeable in between diaper changes.

• STAFFING

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. A criminal record check for a person over the age of 12 who is ordinarily present is not available.

  Corrective action. The Licensee said she has applied for a clearance letter for the individual.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Validation for the Licensee's certificate to practice was not available.

  Corrective action. The Licensee said she will validate her certificate and obtain a copy for her records.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Blind cords were observed hanging low with the potential to be an entrapment.

  Corrective action. The licensee will ensure that all blind cords are inaccessible to children in care.

  Observation. The licensee's CRC has expired. The licensee says they have applied for a new clearance letter which is due to be received in a few weeks.

  Corrective action. Ensure a valid CRC is maintained at all times.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

  Observation. Fire extinguisher is over due for annual service.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a valid emergency plan to mitigate, respond and recover for emergency.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

  Observation. A care plan does not include the course of action recommended by health care professionals for a child requiring additional support.

  Corrective action. Ensure that child's care plan include all the pertinent information on it.
