• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. -A tall shelf in the bathroom not secured posing a tipping hazard. -The stairs leading to the upstairs portion of the home are accessible by children in care. -The second emergency exit was locked at the time of inspection. The Manager said the exit is sometimes locked and sometimes unlocked depending on the individuals who live upstairs.

  Corrective action. Please provide Licensing with a written response by the date noted in the inspection report, addressing the above noted contraventions and the corrective measures put in place for ongoing compliance.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (b) is clean and comfortable.

  Observation. Once child was sleeping on a mattress with no sheet on it.

  Corrective action. The Manager says that a crib sheet will be used at all times moving forward.

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. -Cleaning supplies in an unlocked cupboard in the kitchen.

  Corrective action. Manager has committed to making the space under the sink inaccessible.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Evidence of verification for the manager's certificate was not on file.

  Corrective action. The Manager will obtain a copy of their certification verification and maintain on file.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following items accessible to children; Cleaning wipes stored under kitchen sink; Table light/lamp cable on the floor with tripping hazard; Baby monitor on the chair in nap room has loose cable that could be hazardous for children.

  Corrective action. Please ensure to provide a safe and healthy environment to all children while in care.
