  • C7.2 - Is there adequate and appropriate indoor and outdoor space, materials, and equipment?Critical

    Observation. Licensing observed several large tools (metal shovels, garden edger, brooms) laying on a small angled rooftop located above the play area. The items are laying on snow and ice. These items pose a risk to children if they were to slide off the small rooftop into the play space.

    Observation. Licensing was not able to find evidence that the Licensee has verified employee certification through the Early Childhood Education Registry.

    Observation. At the time of the inspection, a care plan was not on file for a child requiring extra support. The facility does not have a record of play space inspections, maintenance and repairs.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. One employee file does not contain character references.

    Observation. The Licensee changed Manager and did not notify Licensing. The name of the Manager was not display in a prominent place.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. Licensing conducted a check of staff files and found them to be incomplete.

  • C6.1 - Are acceptable hygiene practices maintained?Non-critical

    Observation. Soiled diapers were stored in an open bin in the bathroom and was accessible to children. Diapers are being done on a towel on the bathroom bench.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

    Observation. Licensing conducted a check of child registration files and found several to be incomplete. Licensing reviewed "emergency cards" and found some cards were missing and others to be incomplete.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. Children's lunch kits, containing perishable items, were left open (unzipped) and out on a shelf in the classroom, rather than being stored in the fridge. This was correct during the inspection. Cleaning chemical were stored on a shelf accessible to children. This was corrected during the inspection.

    Observation. The Licensee has not provided Licensing with radon results.

    Observation. An employee's displayed certificate had expired. The employee was able to show Licensing that they held a valid Infant/Toddler and Early Childhood Educator certificate; however it was not at the facility.

    Observation. It is unclear what date and which staff practiced the emergency plan in 2019.

    Observation. Licensing is waiting for radon results to be provided.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

    Observation. There was an incident of a child being taken to the hospital recorded in the Minor Incident folder. However, this appears to meet the definition of a Reportable Incident "unexpected illness". Licensing had not been informed of this incident. The written consent from a parent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance, and release the child to someone other than the parent, was not signed/initialled by a parent of two children. There are digital images missing from several emergency cards.
