  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed the following: -Visible dirt and fingerprint marks on high-touch areas of walls and doors. -Several sections of wall at children’s height had chipped paint, exposing the drywall underneath. - Children’s chairs had several areas of peeling paint. - L bracket securing the play kitchen was detached from the wall with a loose nail in it. Staff removed the nail during the inspection.

    Corrective action. Manager will provide Licensing a plan to address the above issues.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and 1 file contained a valid criminal record clearance letter addressed to another agency.

    Corrective action. The manager said that CRC application for staff mmeber will be submitted to the Criminal Record Review Sharing Program, and a copy of the CRC results will be kept in each staff 's file.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a metal garden rake was within children's reach in outdoor play area.

    Corrective action. Manager removed the metal rake during inspection.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed during outdoor play staff did not have access to hygiene supplies to wipe one child’s nasal discharge. Manager said they usually bring hygiene supplies outside with them, but today they didn’t. During inspection she went inside her personal residence to get Kleenex box to wipe child’ nasal discharge.

    Corrective action. The manager said that hygiene supplies for outdoor play will be stored in the outdoor area, so that she does not have to come inside if they forget to bring them.

    A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).

    Observation. During inspection Licensing observed one child in attendance did not have complete file; it was not obtained prior to the child attending the facility.

    Corrective action. Manager said she had asked the parent several times but they did not provide the information and that she will ensure that the child's file is complete before he attends the facility.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

    Observation. Evidence of reference checks being verified was not available for one staff person.This was discussed in inspection #SMIA-D232W2 dated 1 Feb 2024. The Manager said that she contacted the references but did not document it.

    Corrective action. Manager said she will make notes of the dates and times of when she contacted the references in staff file.

    Observation. 1 staff's ECEA certificate has not been verified through the Early Childhood Educator Registry.This was discussed in inspection #SMIA-D232W2 dated 1 Feb 2024.

    Corrective action. Manager said ECEA certificate will be validated today and evidence of verification will be emailed to licensing.
