  Observation. Licensing reviewed 2 care plans and one was not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

  Corrective action. The Manager said that they will review the care plan with the parent this week.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

  Observation. Licensing observed there is bleach water and lysol wipes accessible to children in the infant/toddler program.

  Corrective action. The staff said they will move the products to ensure they are no longer accessible to children.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Licensing observed that 2 out 3 did not have a record of the emergency evacuation drill for last year.

  Corrective action. The manager said she remembers doing the drill but it wasn't logged.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 23 children's files; 3 were missing their immunization status in one program.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that the children's files are updated.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 7 staff files; 3 did not have validation.

  Corrective action. The manager will ensure that staff files are updated.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 7 staff files; 2 staff's criminal record checks were expired.

  Corrective action. Manager will ensure the staff files are updated.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): At the time of the inspection there was a t.v cord hanging down at the children's level in a room where the children were playing. A staff member was present. The Manager advised that the cord is typically behind a shelf and this was addressed at the time of the inspection.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment at all times while children are in care.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 5 staff files and the following was identified: > There was no record of reference checks for 3 staff who provided names and phone numbers of their character references > The Manager had 2 character references when a Manager is required to have a minimum of 3 character references.

  Corrective action. Please ensure appropriate character reference checks for staff and the Manager

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

  Observation. Immunization status was not obtained for one staff.

  Corrective action. Please obtain, from each staff, a record of their immunization status prior to employment.

• A licensee must ensure that children are adequately supervised by qualified employees in sufficient numbers to meet the needs of each child.

  Observation. Adequate supervision was not provided to meet the needs of a child.

  Corrective action. Corrective action plan required.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. The following was observed: > Two plastic floor lamps over 5 feet tall in the 30 months to school age play area.The concern is that the lamps can fall on a child if pushed as they are light and easy to move. > Protruding nail inside the top of one of the wooden posts attached to the playground structure. The nail is within children's reach. This was temporarily addressed during the inspection.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment while children are in care.

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and observed that 2 staff were missing record of a criminal record check (CRC) through the Criminal Record Check Review Program. One of the staff member had a CRC completed through the RCMP and another staff member had a CRC from their previous place of employment.

  Corrective action. Please ensure staff have appropriate CRC's prior to employment.
