• CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION / Safe Play Space Standard of PracticeNon-critical

  Supervision of Play Spaces: Staff practice active supervision, including a combination of close proximity and attention, watching, and listening. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space].

  Observation. At the time of this inspection,the licensing officer met the RA staff at the school playground where children are being picked up after school and sometimes are staying to play outdoors. The staff was observed sitting down and texting on a phone. When asked how many children had in care the staff answered first six children. The staff pointed out that one child that she could not see ,was somewhere closer to the school playing on it's own on a scooter,while other children were close to the staff at the playground with the climbing structure. LO noted that the staff did not had the first aid and the children's attendance. LO directed staff to gather all children and to return to the facility due to the poor supervision and lack of records and first aid kit. Staff gather all children and two more children joined from the hokey area/concrete area that is away from the playground. When asked again how many children has in care,the staff stated eight,however the licensing officers counted only seven. Staff was asked to confirm the number of children prior heading back to the facility and to ensure that all children that suppose to attend that day are present. The staff stated that said eight children as she got confused.

  First aid kits are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided away from premises. [CCLR Sec. 23(2)]

  Observation. Licensing officers noted that no first aid kit was available to the staff attending the children on the school playground situated away from the licensed facility. When licensing officer asked the staff where is the first aid kit,the staff stated that was left at the facility.

  Criminal record checks have not been obtained. [CCLR Sec. 19(1)(a)]

  Observation. LO noted the licensee had not obtained for one staff that was working with the children , a CRC from Ministry of Justice. The CRC that was available on file was obtained from local RCMP.

• STAFFING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

  Staff are trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and the emergency plan, including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(a)]

  Observation. The fire extinguisher tag reads service was due Oct. 18, 2023.
