• MEDICATION

  If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

  Observation. A child had medication but no permission to administer medication form with the name of medication, amount to be given or time to be given.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all medication is administered in the amount and time specified in the child's record.

• MEDICATION

  A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (a) the child's parent has instructed the licensee to permit this. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Medication was accessible to children in care in a child's bag.

  Corrective action. Medication was moved during the inspection.

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. There was no record of last year's earthquake drill in regards to the 30 months to school age program.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a record is maintained when completing the earthquake drill this year.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files from the school age program and one staff did not have a site specific criminal record check (CRC).

  Corrective action. The Manager advised that the staff member will apply to have the CRC shared with the facility.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. This morning, there appeared to be a large number of ants around the sink area in the 30 months to school age side. The Manager advised that this has been a problem for about a month.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy environment is maintained at all times while children are in care.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 3 staff files from the 30 months to school age program and observed that record of certificate verification was missing for one staff.

  Corrective action. Please ensure certificates are verified using the system established by the ECE registry.
