    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Two containers containing cleaning supplies were kept in a cabinet accessible to children in the bathroom

    Corrective action. The Assistant Director removed the items and said they will be stored out of reach of children

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was observed: -There were multiple areas in the facility where paint was chipping, exposing drywall within reach of children in the play spaces and bathrooms -Multiple sleeping mats in the GCC 30 months to school age program were torn

    Corrective action. The Assistant Director said the owner will be contacted to schedule maintenance of the chipping paint and walls. The Assistant Director will have the torn beds repaired.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Children’s nap beds and blankets in the Infant Program are stored on top of each other, resulting in the children’s bedding touching

    Licensees must not make any structural change to a community care facility unless the licensee first (a) submits plans for the change to a medical health officer.

    Observation. The nap room was extended in the IT room and a storage room was built in the multi-age's nap room. Licensing was not informed prior to making the changes.

    Corrective action. Submit floor plans to show the changes. Licensing will need to come out to re-measure the IT room to confirm that square footage has not been impacted.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed climbing equipment approximately 4 feet high in the 30 months to school age program and approximately 3 feet high in the toddler program. The concern is that the equipment were placed on hard surfaces, which would increase the risk of harm should a child fall. This was addressed at the time of the inspection.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a health and safety environment is maintained at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Multiple shelving units were lined across in the 30 months to school age program to create a division of the room. One of shelving units on wheels was tippable and Licensing expressed concerns of the potential for the furniture to fall on a child. The shelf was secured during the inspection.
