    Observation. The following was observed in the children’s outdoor play space -A large wooden gardening structure had rotting wood which was leaning and unstable -Large rusted nails in a pile of old wood was accessible to children. The nails were in a position that was a potential hazard if a child fell

    Corrective action. The Manager said she will have the structure fixed and have the area surrounding the structure inaccessible to the children in the meantime.

    Observation. Large heavy planters were unsecured and placed on unstable equipment in the play area. The concern is the planters and equipment may fall on a child.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

    Observation. Licensing observed that a portion of the outdoor fence located along the side of the facility was broken and in need of repair. Boards/panels were missing, part of the fence was falling inwards towards the play area, and there were nails sticking out of different areas of the fence. The licensee said the backyard is not currently being used while children are in care.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure children are free of harm.
