- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A container containing gut health capsules, without being in a child safe container, was accessible to children in the cubby area.
Corrective action. Staff confirmed that medication/capsules will be stored out of reach of children. The container was moved during inspection.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation. The children's blankets and sleep sacks were stored on playpens where they were touching one another.
Corrective action. The Manager said she will ensure blankets and children's materials are stored separately as to not be touching one another.
15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. There were three containers of Tylenol kept for children who may require medication periodically. Medication forms were unable to be obtained for the children to indicate the times, dosage and reason for administration.
Corrective action. The Manager said the children do not typically need the medication and they would get permission the day of if required. The Manager said she will have medication forms completed for all medication stored on site for the children.
16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - PROGRAM
A licensee, other than a licensee providing a care program described as Occasional Child Care, must provide each child with daily outdoor play periods unless weather conditions would make it unreasonable to do so. (4) Despite subsection (1), a licensee who provides a care program described as Occasional Child Care need not provide a program of outdoor activities. (5) Despite subsection (3), that subsection applies to a licensee who provides a care program described as Child-minding only if the program provides care for 3.5 hours or more each day.
Observation. Outdoor active play is provided for a period of 30-45 minutes a day which does not meet the Active Play requirements of 60 minutes of outdoor active play per day. This is a repeat contravention
Corrective action. The Manager said they will review their outdoor play schedule and ensure they are meeting the Active Play Policy.
18060 - CCLR s.44(3)(4)(5) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. The attendance records do not reflect the times when the programs are combined in the morning and afternoon
Corrective action. The Manager said she will update the attendance forms to be able to record which room the child is in at all times moving forward.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Furniture, equipment, and/or fixtures were in disrepair, including: - baseboards coming off the wall, exposing peeling paint in the 30 months to school age program - rips/tears in multiple play pens in the under 36 months program
Corrective action. Staff said the manager has a plan to replace the baseboards and will provide a temporary solution to the rips/tears in the play pens until a permanant solution is found. A reponse will be provided to licensing.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Fridge temperature not maintained between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius.
Corrective action. Staff said fridge temperature will be monitoried and maintained.

Observation. Licensing observed the following: - The play mats had foam exposed, making it hard to clean - There were small holes in the mesh of 2 cribs.
Corrective action. The Manager said she would repair the exposed foam and plans to sew the holes in the mesh of the cribs.

Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually. The extinguishers have recently expired. This a repeat contravention.
Corrective action. Manager said she will take the fire extinguishers later today to get serviced

The Manager moved the bleach to be inaccessible to children while licensing was on site.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed children sitting in highchairs eating lunch. The highchair trays were unclean and had left over food particles on them. The Manager cleaned the trays while licensing was on site.
Corrective action. Ensure all equipment is clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. The fence on the east and west sides of the outdoor play area patio is loose and moves significantly back and forth posing risk.
Corrective action. Ensure that the fence is secure and the play area is enclosed to ensure children are free from harm.
