    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing Officer observed a staff changing a child’s diaper and neither the staff nor the child washed their hands after. The diaper change mat was not sanitized after use.

    Corrective action. The Manager said she will speak to the staff to ensure handwashing and sanitizing occurs after each diaper change

    Observation. A minimum of two character references were not obtained for an employee.

    Corrective action. Licensee said the character references will be obtained and checked.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Validation was not completed for one employee. Licensee completed certificate verification while licensing was on site.

    Corrective action. Licensee said certificate verifications will be completed moving forward.

    Observation. Licensing observed children of different ages eating in the kitchen area of the daycare space. The licensee left the area to place children in the nap room while children were still eating. Discussion was held with the licensee regarding ongoing supervision.
