  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Loose cords were observed in the main play area. They were accessible to children.

  Corrective action. Licensee said she will ensure loose cords are secured and make it not accessible to children.

  Observation. Upon inspection there were loose cords accessible in the upstairs playroom.

  Corrective action. The licensee advised the cords will be covered by the shelf or secured to the wall so that they are not loose.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (k) the date on which the child stops attending the community care facility.

  Observation. Upon inspection, there is no record of when children stop attending.

  Corrective action. Moving forward, the licensee advised she will document the date children stop attending.

• A licensee must ensure that a child, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, is not subjected to any of the following: (e) separation, without supervision by a responsible adult, from other children.

  Observation. A child was left unattended in a room with the door closed while in a highchair.

  Corrective action. The licensee advised the child will not be separated from the group without supervision.

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.

  Observation. No care plan available for a child requiring extra support.

  Corrective action. The licensee advised she is working with supported child development and will create a care plan for the child.

  Observation. Licensing observed a large, unsecured television placed on a cabinet located on the top floor of the facility in the children's activity room, posing a risk if it were to fall.

  Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

  Observation. DLSOP Active Play – The Licensee has not developed an Active Play Policy.

  Corrective action. Ensure to develop an Active Play Policy.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that attendance had not been taken at the time of inspection and there was not a record of children's departure on a couple of previous days.

  Corrective action. Ensure to keep an accurate record of attendance. Licensee corrected during the inspection.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].

  Observation. Licensing noted there was no record of a fire drill being completed for September 2020. The Licensee said one was practiced, however it was not recorded.

  Corrective action. Ensure records are kept respecting compliance with section 22(2)(b).

• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

  Observation. Licensing noted 4 children's records did not contain consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's records are complete and contain all required information.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 6 children's records and noted 3 were missing date of enrollment.

  Corrective action. Ensure children's records are complete.

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.

  Observation. Licensing noted the fire extinguisher was due for servicing in November 2020.

  Corrective action. Ensure fire extinguishers are maintained yearly.

  Observation. At the time of the inspection there were 6 children under the age of 4 in the program.

  Corrective action. Ensure that the number of children under the age of 4 years old does not exceed 4.
